Olympic gold medalist Keely Hodgkinson sparks backlash for her comments about Americans

Since winning gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, she’s become a star in British athletics and continues to perform flawlessly.

She’s become very successful, landing profitable partnerships with major brands like Nike, Omega, and Rimmel London, and is now worth around £4 million.

Keely Hodgkinson may face backlash after posting a video where she criticized American accents, describing them as harsh and irritating.

In a recent TikTok video, the 23-year-old reacted to an annoying sound by rolling her eyes and taking a sip of her drink. The clip featured a voiceover saying someone was trying to relax when they were interrupted by a grating noise.

Keely’s video caption playfully pointed out that when Americans are dining in a restaurant, they often stand out as the loudest group there.

The video, released just three days after she earned a bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, has sparked a variety of reactions.

One American fan playfully complained that people seemed opposed to having a good time, and another asked her to be kind to her American fans. She responded with a friendly ‘Love y’all’.

American Olympic gold medalist Masai Russell, who also competes in the 100m hurdles, playfully commented, “Hey, not too much!” Keely replied with, “Y’all are the most fun.”

People agreed with her, with one commenter saying she was ‘so real’ and another adding that she was ‘preaching’ because those being discussed were incredibly frustrating.

This happened after Keely narrowly missed winning the World Championships, finishing just behind her training partner and roommate, Georgia Hunter Bell, who took second place, and Kenya’s surprising competitor, Lilian Odira.

Oh my gosh, it’s been 376 days since she last raced – 376 days! A hamstring injury kept her sidelined, and when she saw the results on Monday… it just broke my heart. You could *see* how devastated she was. It was awful to watch, honestly. I just want her to be back out there!

It turned out Hodgkinson had been feeling unwell for several days and described the situation as a complete disaster, using strong language.

Even the best athletes sometimes have off years, miss out on medals, or even have to take a year off from competing.

I’m really proud to have stayed focused on my goals, and I think that’s amazing. When my career is over, I believe people will remember my accomplishments more than my failures.

‘This will just go down as part of my journey and on reflection, I’ll be happy.’

Keely has been contacted for comment by the Daily Mail.
