Olly Murs opens up about how ‘tough’ it has been being away during baby Albert’s early days and promises wife Amelia he will be more present in the new year

Olly Murs has shared how difficult it was being separated from his son, Albert, during the baby’s first few months.

On Monday’s Heart Breakfast show, the 41-year-old singer shared that he’d made a New Year’s resolution to spend more time with his wife, Amelia.

The couple are parents to a 19-month-old daughter, Madison, and a baby boy, Albert, who was born in September.

Olly has recently made a comeback to music with his new album, ‘Knees Up,’ and has been actively promoting it.

He appeared on the radio show with Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston to talk about the challenges of balancing fatherhood with his work.

Olly explained: ‘The last few weeks I’ve said to Amelia it’s been really tough.’

I’ve been busy promoting my new album, which was released last week, and also working on this. Plus, I have a Christmas song coming out soon.

You know, I told her I was really going to prioritize being home more next year, and I even joked that she’d end up annoyed with me for being around too much! It was my way of promising a calmer year and more of my presence, even if I teased that it might eventually become a bit much for her.

Last month, Olly publicly complimented his wife, Amelia, after she confidently shared photos of herself in underwear, celebrating her body after having their second child.

Amelia looked amazing in a new Instagram post on Sunday, proudly holding her newborn son and showing off her post-baby body.

The bodybuilder expressed deep gratitude for her body and shared that she’s proud of how far she’s come.

Olly lovingly showed his support for Amelia online, leaving a sweet comment about her.

He wrote: ‘Two beautiful kids, one unbelievable, incredible wife x I’m a lucky lucky man xx’

Amelia shared a video and a heartfelt message, expressing gratitude for her body’s ability to carry and deliver two babies. She acknowledged the changes her body went through and continues to show up for her every day, and is forever thankful for her children.

She expressed her pride in her current self and shared her excitement about regaining her fitness and strength when she’s ready.

The couple announced Amelia’s second pregnancy in April.

Olly and his partner, a bodybuilder, got married in July 2023 and welcomed their daughter on April 17, 2024.

Olly previously left home only two days after his daughter Amelia was born to tour with Take That. This time, he’s committed to being much more involved and present as a father.

The singer shared with the audience that being a new parent meant a lot of sleepless nights and diaper changes, and he felt bad about having to be away from his family for work.

It’s been a really hectic time. I’m thrilled to have a baby girl, and my wife is doing an amazing job at home taking care of her – all the diapers, the lack of sleep, everything that comes with a new baby.

‘And I’m on tour with Take That. I feel guilty!’

Olly openly admitted he cried when he had to leave his daughter only two days after she was born.

Okay, seriously, if you need a perfect start to your day, you HAVE to listen to Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden on Heart Breakfast! I’m completely addicted – it’s on every weekday from 6:30 to 10:00 AM, and I listen all across the UK using the Global Player app. It honestly makes my mornings!
