Olly Alexander Faces Career Setback After Eurovision Disappointment and Label Departure
Olly Alexander has experienced a setback in his career, only a year following his Eurovision competition where he placed 18th.
The artist has officially announced that he is no longer with his record company, Polydor, following his recent release of a solo album titled Polari last month as part of his efforts to rekindle his music career.
In 2014, the vocalist from Years & Years left the band after fellow members Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Turkmen departed, leading him to pursue a solo career.
Nevertheless, his solo album debuted at number 17 (marking the first time he didn’t make it into the Top Five) and produced no Top 40 singles instead.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find myself echoing Olly’s sentiments. Though his journey has been marked by ups and downs, he views his departure from the label as a fresh start. He’s brimming with anticipation to embark on something novel and share his music once more in the days ahead.
He wrote on Instagram: ‘They aren’t dropping me, they just aren’t renewing my contract.

It’s all right, and truthfully, this is for the better. For the past ten years, I’ve been stuck in an unfavorable situation. Now, it’s high time for me to embark on a fresh journey.
‘But I’ll still make music in the future.’
Olly found significant achievement with the first album by Years & Years, titled “Communion.” This album included popular tracks such as “King,” “Shine,” “Desire,” and “Eyes Shut.
2021 saw the Eurovision performer gain a fresh group of admirers after appearing in Channel 4’s series, “It’s A Sin.
On May 11, Olly showcased the UK at a music competition held in Malmö, Sweden with his lively song “Dizzy.” Although the jury awarded him 46 points, unfortunately, he didn’t receive any votes from the public, which placed him in 18th position.
In recent disclosures, it’s been made clear that Kirsten Dunst is the leading actress he yearns to collaborate with on a film project. This comes as he subtly expresses his intention of re-entering acting following his outstanding performance in It’s A Sin.
Last year at a small concert, Olly performed a mellow version of “It’s A Sin” and “Eyes Shut,” then switched to a more energetic pace to sing his lively tracks like “Starstruck” and “If You’re Over Me.
At the event, Olly was queried during an exclusive chat about his dream co-star for a movie role and the reasons behind his choice.

He admitted that it was quite challenging for him, but he shared his desire: “I have always dreamt of acting alongside Kirsten Dunst in a movie.
‘Because I could be like ”omg Kirsten Dunst, you are an icon”.’
Olly mentioned that if a biographical film were ever made about him, he would choose an unexpected actress for the role, and his pick is Florence Pugh.
He also named White Lotus as a show he would love to go on because he would get a nice holiday.
