Olivier Awards 2025: Maimuna Memon’s Hilarious Kiss Mishap

2025 saw the Olivier Awards ceremony, which honored the finest productions in London’s West End, taking place at the majestic Royal Albert Hall on a Sunday evening. The event was ably hosted by none other than Beverley Knight and Billy Porter.

On that remarkable evening, it was I, a dedicated follower of the arts, who cheered as Maimuna Memon, a radiant actress of 33 years, graciously claimed her well-deserved prize – the Best Supporting Actress in a Musical award – for her outstanding performance in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet Of 1812.

However, his acceptance speech was disrupted when he unexpectedly shared a somewhat awkward kiss with the presenter, Corbin Bleu.

Overwhelmed, Maimuna made her way onto the stage to receive her accolade, giving Samantha Barks a sweet peck on the cheek. She then moved towards High School Musical sensation Corbin for another affectionate kiss.

Meanwhile, Maimuna approached Corbin, who extended his hand for a handshake just as she moved to plant a kiss on his cheek simultaneously.

In pure, unadulterated enthusiasm, I found myself caught up in an amusing dance of near-kisses with none other than Maimuna. After multiple attempts, we finally managed a cheek peck, yet somehow the moment felt anything but smooth. With a chuckle and a shrug, she acknowledged my clumsy charm: “Well, I always manage to make things awkward… but hey, that’s just me.

This year’s Olivier Awards were especially glamorous, as several veteran actors from Hollywood received nominations.

On the evening of Sunday, the 2025 Olivier Awards were presented, and Lesley Manville and John Lithgow graciously received the accolades for their exceptional performances in the categories of Best Actress and Best Actor respectively.

English actress Lesley, 69, received the coveted gong for her part in Oedipus at Wyndham’s Theatre.

Hollywood legend John Lithgow, 79, was handed the Best Actor award for his role in Giant.

In the play titled “Giant,” actor John from the Conclave stage portrays Roald Dahl, who is put on trial for his controversial opinions that may make some viewers uneasy.

Overwhelmed with emotion as he received the award, John exclaimed, “I feel like I might pass out! This moment holds immense significance for me. Performing on that stage was truly one of the greatest experiences in my life.

I simply can’t contain my excitement! As a die-hard fan, witnessing Mark Rosenblatt’s West End show, “Giant,” claim the crown was nothing short of exhilarating. It cleaned house, taking home an astounding three awards, including the coveted title of Best New Play. What a triumphant night for theater!

Giant received another win as Elliot Levey, 51, was awarded the Best Actor In A Supporting Role.

Simultaneously, Romola Garai, aged 42, smiled brightly while she was photographed alongside her award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, which she received for her performance in the film titled “The Years.

At the event, Idris Elba beamed happily next to Sam Grabiner, the victor, as he handed over the award for Exceptional New Production in a Performing Arts Venue (associated with another organization) for “Boys On The Verge Of Tears”.

After receiving the award for Best Revival of Oedipus, Cate Blanchett, Tom Burke, and Robert Icke were spotted together.

In the awards ceremony, Imelda Staunton was named Best Actress for her part in Hello, Dolly!, while Maimuna Memon took home the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical in Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812 at Donmar Warehouse.

This year’s Olivier Awards was an especially glamorous event, as several veteran actors from Hollywood were nominated.

I, a die-hard theater enthusiast, had the absolute pleasure of attending the dazzling awards ceremony held at the iconic Royal Albert Hall on the 6th of April. This star-studded event, graciously hosted by none other than Beverley Knight and Billy Porter, honors the crème de la crème of London’s West End!

In the Best Actor category, Adrien Brody, John Lithgow, Billy Crudup, Paapa Essiedu, and Mark Strong all competed fiercely. However, it was John Lithgow who ultimately took home the award.

In addition to the previously mentioned British personalities, other noteworthy nominees vying for the stage awards are Layton Williams from Strictly Come Dancing, comedian Meera Syal, and three-time Olivier Award recipient Sharon D. Clarke.

Currently, Joseph Stein’s musical Fiddler on the Roof is receiving the most recognition, earning a total of 13 nominations.

New productions Giant and The Years also tied for most nominated play with five nods each.

Manville and Strong were each put forward for prestigious awards for their portrayals of the character Oedipus, a king from Thebes who unknowingly killed his father and married his mother.

Both Manville and Strong received nominations for top honors due to their performances as Oedipus, the tragic king of Thebes who unwittingly committed incest and patricide.

The actor Lithgow, playing the role of Roald Dahl in the production titled “Giant,” was praised for his performance, as this play presents the author’s controversial perspectives on trial.

The performance delves into the consequences arising from controversial anti-Semitic comments he made in a 1983 critique of Tony Clifton and Catherine Leroy’s book “God Cried,” which discussed the Lebanon bombing of the preceding year.

During that period, Brody was nominated for his performance in “The Fear of 13,” a play that debuted at the Donmar Warehouse last year. It is adapted from Nick Yarrow’s memoir detailing his 22-year imprisonment on death row in the United States.
