Olivia Munn spoke candidly about her return to acting, having landed a part in a project after a hiatus of over three years.
44-year-old actress openly shared that she experienced reduced anxiety about her physical appearance following surgery, when discussing her decision to go without a top during intimate scenes with Jon Hamm in their upcoming series, Your Friends and Neighbors.
Despite the insecurity I felt about my body following cancer and a double mastectomy, I’ve found myself feeling even more self-conscious before undergoing these experiences,” she shared with NBC News.
Apocalypse, the actor shared: “I’ve grown a greater respect for my physical form, as it is what carried me through this challenging experience. I battled my way through with all my might, which has made me significantly less self-conscious.
Besides gaining increased self-assurance about her personal identity following her cancer fight, the Oklahoma City shared that she now chooses her job opportunities more carefully.
She mentioned that she needs to balance her time effectively, considering the amount of time she’d like to spend away from her children and the potential stress it might bring on.

Munn mentioned: “Given my unique health condition, my cancer is fueled by hormones. Therefore, if any cancer cells have managed to remain within me, stress hormones could potentially nourish them as well.
She shared that she frequently ponders whether certain aspects of her life – her circumstances, job, friendships, or relationships – are sources of stress, and if they could potentially trigger a recurrence of cancer in her future. Regardless, her conclusion is always the same: it wouldn’t be worth it.
2024 marked a transformative year for me as I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of luminal B breast cancer. Over the next few months, I faced five surgical procedures, including a double mastectomy and hysterectomy, all aimed at battling this health challenge head-on.
Previously, she courageously displayed her mastectomy scars in a SKIMS advertisement, which coincided with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
During an interview on Today, Olivia first shared that the campaign wasn’t originally intended to focus on her scars. However, she eventually decided to accept and showcase them as part of her story.
She shared that when Skims reached out for the campaign, it focused solely on promoting their shapewear and newly released leggings, with no consideration of her scar whatsoever.
However, during the shoot, Olivia found it challenging to hide her scars when she switched to clothing that made them more noticeable.
Speaking as a lifestyle advisor, I’d rephrase it like this: “During the photoshoot, I switched to an outfit that showcased more of my scars. The makeup artist then worked diligently to camouflage them, but covering the double mastectomy scars proved particularly challenging.

Later on, as I gazed into the mirror, a thought crossed my mind: “I no longer wish to be burdened by my scars’ insecurity.” Subsequently, I approached the Skims team and asked them, “What would you all think if I were to reveal my scars in this campaign?
Not only were they impressive, considerate, and delightful, but after a discussion, we mutually agreed on the course of action.
In September, Olivia and her spouse, John Mulaney, added another member to their family by welcoming their second child, a beautiful daughter named Méi June Mulaney. This precious bundle of joy entered the world through the help of a surrogate mother.
The couple also share two-year-old son Malcolm together.
