She’s the first British musical megastar export since Dua Lipa.
Okay, so exciting news! Olivia Dean is making a huge move – she’s swapping London for Los Angeles! Everyone in the music industry over there is convinced she’s the next big thing, and honestly, they’re already talking about her as a modern-day Mariah Carey. It’s a massive opportunity, and I can’t wait to see what she does!
The 26-year-old singer, originally from Tottenham, recently won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist and is now collaborating with top producers from around the globe.
The singer is planning to move to Los Angeles after she finishes her current tour in the UK. Her record label thinks this move could significantly boost her career.
People believe she has the potential to be as successful as Mariah Carey, who has sold over 300 million records throughout her 35-year career.
In an interview last year, Ms. Dean said she didn’t want to move to the West Coast, explaining that she felt it would be too isolating due to its reliance on cars.
In an interview with Nylon magazine, she described Los Angeles as a city focused on getting from one point to another. She prefers the journey itself, saying she enjoys the spontaneity of who you might meet and what might happen along the way.
She added: ‘There’s such a culture of being observed [in LA], and I can’t live my life that way.’
But an industry source told The Mail on Sunday that the singer had been persuaded to make the jump.
‘Olivia’s been convinced that the move to LA will be beneficial to her career,’ they said.
Okay, so the news is HUGE! She’s moving to LA! Everyone’s telling her she’s going to absolutely love it there, and that if she doesn’t click with it right away, she just needs to give it time. I’m already picturing her thriving, honestly. It’s going to be amazing!
Olivia plans to finish her current tour, take a short break, and then relocate to begin working on new music.
Ms Dean’s The Art Of Loving is the longest-running No 1 album by a British female this decade.
The album, which came out last October, has now been number one for seven weeks in total. This is a longer run at the top than Adele’s ’30’, which stayed at number one for five weeks straight in 2021.
The singer, nominated for five awards at the upcoming Brit Awards later this month, is the first British artist to win a Grammy for Best New Artist since Dua Lipa in 2019.
She reportedly changed her mind about moving to Los Angeles because of the overwhelmingly positive response to her Grammy performance, with many respected vocal coaches offering their praise.
Ms. Dean was raised in Haringey, London, and her father, who was English, sparked her love for music by introducing her to artists like Al Green and Carole King.
Her mother, a lawyer originally from Jamaica and Guyana, loved 1990s neo-soul artists like Lauryn Hill and Angie Stone.
