Olivia Dean hits out at ‘disgusting’ ticketing companies amid reselling scandal as she warns fans of scams – as Labour crack down on rip-off prices

Okay, seriously, I’m SO mad right now! Olivia Dean just called out these awful ticket companies, and she’s SO right! They’re letting people resell tickets for insane prices – it’s totally disgusting! I’m just so glad she’s speaking up about this, because it’s ruining things for real fans like me who just want to see her!

Hey everyone, just wanted to give you a quick heads-up! I’ve been made aware that some fans are being targeted by scammers trying to sell fake tickets to my North American tour. It’s so frustrating, and my team is working hard right now to investigate and put a stop to it. Please be careful out there, and only purchase tickets through official channels. I want everyone to have a safe and amazing time at the shows!

The singer posted a message saying they’re aware of problems with ticket re-selling and pricing, and their team is working to fix it.

I’m really upset that anyone might be taken advantage of or charged too much for tickets to our show. That’s the last thing I want to happen.

She publicly criticized Ticketmaster, Live Nation, and AEG Presents, calling their service unacceptable.

We strongly object to the prices you’re permitting for resold tickets; they are unacceptable and do not align with our expectations.

Everyone should be able to enjoy live music without it costing too much, and we need to find a better system to make that happen. Let’s improve how we do things.

Ticketmaster responded by saying they support artists’ rights to control how their tickets are sold and resold. They announced they will limit resale prices on their platform to the original purchase price and expressed hope that other ticket resale sites will do the same, as shared with @OliviaDeano.

Ticketmaster told The Daily Mail that rules for reselling tickets vary by country. However, in the UK, they’ve limited resale prices to the original cost of the ticket since 2018.

We have also contacted Live Nation and AEG Presents for comment.

Olivia publicly complained after a new law passed on Wednesday made it illegal to resell tickets for more than their original price. The law is part of an effort to stop ticket touts and unfair resale practices.

Labour’s plan includes better safeguards to prevent people from being scammed or overcharged for event tickets by ticket resellers.

Ticket touts often use automated programs to quickly purchase large numbers of tickets as soon as they become available. They then resell these tickets at significantly inflated prices on secondary markets.

Starting Wednesday, it’s now against the law to resell tickets to concerts, games, or other events for more than you originally paid for them.

According to the UK government website, the price will be the original ticket cost plus any fees that can’t be avoided, like service charges.

To keep prices fair, resale platforms will have limits on the fees they can charge.

‘Resale platforms will have a legal duty to monitor and enforce compliance with the price cap.

People won’t be allowed to resell more tickets than they originally purchased.

Many top artists, including Coldplay, Dua Lipa, and Radiohead, are calling on the government to keep its promise to limit how much resold tickets cost.

Robert Smith of The Cure, New Order, Mark Knopfler, Iron Maiden, PJ Harvey, and Mercury Prize winner Sam Fender were among those who signed a statement asking for limits on ticket purchases. They hope this will rebuild trust in the ticketing system and make arts events more accessible to everyone.

Groups like Which?, FanFair Alliance, O2, and the Football Supporters’ Association also signed the agreement, along with organizations representing musicians, theaters, venues, managers, and ticket sellers.

Ticketmaster’s parent company Live Nation Entertainment backed the move.

Live Nation has publicly voiced its support for the UK government’s proposal to prohibit the resale of tickets for more than their original price.

Ticketmaster already prevents ticket reselling in the UK at prices higher than the original cost, and this new measure is another significant improvement for fans. It helps stop ticket scalpers from exploiting fans and ensures live events remain affordable. We hope other companies worldwide will follow suit and prioritize fans in their policies.
