Olivia Dean is having a fantastic year, earning her first nomination for an Ivor Novello Award. She’s joined as a nominee by established artists Lily Allen and Lola Young.
The singer of ‘The Man I Need,’ age 27, recently earned four BRIT Awards and is now nominated for two more: Best Album and the PRS for Music Most Performed Work award.
Lily, the popular singer-songwriter, is nominated for Best Album with her latest release, West End Girl, and will be competing against Olivia.
Jacob Alon, Self Esteem (and her co-writer Johan Hugo), Kae Tempest, and Fraser T Smith are also nominated twice, joining the initial group of nominees.
Olivia’s song “Man I Need” is nominated for Most Performed Work by PRS for Music, alongside several other popular tracks. The competition includes songs released this year, like Lola’s “Messy,” Myles Smith’s “Stargazing,” and Chrystal’s “The Days,” as well as Coldplay’s 2008 hit “Viva La Vida,” which recently saw a resurgence in popularity thanks to the band’s world tour.
Most music awards honor the best songs written in the last year, but the PRS For Music prize goes to the songs that were played the most – on the radio, online, and in live performances.
Amazon Music’s Rising Star Award celebrates new artists, and this year’s finalists are Chloe Qisha, Divorce, Jacob Alon, kwn, and Skye Newman.
The Ivors Awards celebrate the best songwriters and composers from the UK and Ireland, and also honor artists who’ve made a significant impact on British music as a whole.
A total of 61 songwriters and composers from Britain and Ireland, along with their international partners, have received nominations. Over half of them – 34 individuals – are first-time nominees.
The winners will be revealed at The Ivors ceremony, sponsored by Amazon Music, on May 21, 2026, at Grosvenor House in London.
Olivia had a hugely successful night at the BRIT Awards, winning all four awards she was nominated for.
The songwriter won Best Artist, Best Album, Best Song and Best Pop Act.
Olivia received two nominations for Song of the Year: one for her single “Man I Need,” and another for “Rein Me In,” a collaboration with Sam Fender, which ultimately won the award.
She broke down in tears as she was named Artist of the Year, her third award of the night.
As the singer stepped onto the stage, she expressed her gratitude to her team and band, explaining that creating great art is a collaborative effort.
Her voice broke as she began to cry, before adding: ‘I don’t know what else to say, thank you.’
It was a completely different night for Lily Allen who didn’t take home any awards.
I was so thrilled when Lily’s album, West End Girl, absolutely smashed the charts last year! It was everywhere, which was amazing. But honestly, I was a little disappointed she didn’t win Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, or Best Pop Act – Olivia took those home, and while she’s talented, I really thought this should have been Lily’s year.
The 40-year-old singer’s new album explores the breakdown of her marriage to David Harbour, 50, of ‘Stranger Things,’ and reveals details about a reported affair he had with someone named Madeline during their relationship.
Although the singer of ‘Not Fair’ had been nominated eight times before, they didn’t attend this year’s event.
