Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch’s “unmissable” ’80s remake is now available to watch at home

Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch’s new film, set in the 1980s, is now available to watch at home. Called The Roses, the movie tells the story of a marriage that begins to crumble, and it was recently in theaters. You can now buy or rent it digitally through Prime Video and Apple TV. It will also be streaming on Disney+ in about a month.

The movie centers on Theo and Ivy Rose, and how their relationship becomes strained when Theo’s career struggles while Ivy Rose’s begins to flourish.

The new film is based on Warren Adler’s 1981 novel, The War of the Roses, which was previously made into a movie in 1989. The cast includes Andy Samberg (known from Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Kate McKinnon (Barbie), Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who), Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats), and Allison Janney (The Diplomat).

Digital Spy gave “The Roses” a four-star rating, calling it a must-see event where the witty back-and-forth between two British comedy legends ultimately delights the viewers.

In a previous interview with Vanity Fair, Cumberbatch described the film as a story about a relationship with extreme highs and lows – a couple who went from deeply loving each other to intensely hating each other, and lost sight of everything in between.

It’s surprising how often we see familiar patterns – like difficulty expressing love to those closest to us, and how easily family relationships can fall apart if they aren’t carefully maintained and strengthened.

Colman described the story as a compelling look at a loving couple whose relationship gradually deteriorates, showing how they slowly begin to hurt each other.

The TV show The Roses faced criticism for a scene about food allergies. A prominent charity described the scene as insensitive and potentially harmful.

You can now buy or rent The Roses on digital platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV. It will also be available to stream on Disney+ at a later date.
