A new take on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight is coming to Netflix, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet. Lionsgate revealed plans for an animated series based on the popular vampire story earlier this year, and it’s now confirmed it will stream on Netflix. However, don’t expect to hear the original movie actors voicing the characters, as the cast has indicated they won’t be involved.
Several original stars from the Twilight movies – Peter Facinelli (Carlisle), Ashley Greene (Alice), Kellan Lutz (Emmett), and Jackson Rathbone (Jasper) – recently met with fans at Motor City Comic Con in Michigan. During a discussion with ScreenRant, they shared that they attempted to be part of the new series based on Midnight Sun, but weren’t successful. Rathbone explained that…
We thought it would be fun to revisit the show, especially since we hadn’t been away from it for too long and our voices still sounded the same. We reached out as a group, letting them know we’d be happy to come back and do it properly. We weren’t asking for much money, honestly! We always wanted to return because of our love for the fans and our characters. But they turned us down, and we didn’t even get a chance to audition, which was surprising.
For those familiar with the Twilight series, Midnight Sun retells the original story from Edward Cullen’s point of view. Because of this shift in perspective, the book features Edward’s vampire family more prominently, and it could have been a chance to explore those supporting characters and their backgrounds in greater detail.
During a recent discussion, Rathbone revealed that he and his fellow actors first heard about the upcoming Twilight TV show from fans – one even tried out for a role! However, when they expressed interest in being involved, they weren’t given the opportunity. While no actors have been officially cast yet, many believe Netflix is planning a fresh take on the story. Facinelli added this comment:
Honestly, I’m really disappointed about someone else taking on that role because I love the character. That movie, for me and a lot of other people, is strongly tied to good memories. It reminds you of watching it with family or friends, or the experience of seeing it in theaters. It feels like those films were a big part of many people’s childhoods and growing up over the past two decades.
Peter Facinelli, who played Carlisle, admitted he was a little sad about the reboot but expressed confidence it will be good. Ashley Greene, who played Alice, also shared supportive words for the new actors taking on the roles, wishing them all the best. She jokingly noted how young they all still sound before adding her sincere well wishes.

While a new generation of actors might soon be taking on the roles made famous by Twilight, the original cast will always be remembered for their iconic performances. Taylor Lautner is starring in a show called Werewolf Hunter, and Kristen Stewart is about to appear in another vampire film. With the Twilight saga recently returning to cinemas to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the books, the Cullen family continues to make appearances at fan events, including one in Michigan.
Even though these aren’t brand new projects, it’s good to see everyone involved remaining connected to the series and the type of stories it tells.
