OG Esports officially joins Honor of Kings

Champion Dota 2 team OG Esports is exploring the world of mobile esports by partnering with Honor of Kings, signaling a fresh direction for their organization.

In an unexpected move, two-time Dota 2 The International (TI) champion OG Esports has hinted at their entrance into Honor of Kings. This announcement was made on March 1st, with a teaser video posted across their official channels. This marks the first foray by this European esports organization into the world of mobile esports.

Roster to be announced soon, participating in the KMW

Apart from the formal announcement that OG Esports will join the esports scene for Honor of Kings as the partner team representing Western Europe in the Honor of Kings Major West League (KMW), there is currently limited information available about the team, such as its roster. As per the latest official rules stated in the roster handbook for the tournament, OG Esports must comply with certain conditions regarding their player lineup.

  1. Maintain a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 7 players on the roster.
  2. Allowed up to 1 player who is not a resident of the team’s home region (imported player).
  3. At least 2 players who are residents of the team’s representing country.
  4. At least 4 players (including those mentioned in point 3) who are residents of the team’s home region.

The global competitive scene for The Honor of Kings is still quite fresh, given its worldwide release took place in June 2024. Yet, the developers have signaled their dedication to fostering a thriving global esports environment by unveiling their 2025 esports blueprint. This strategic plan includes seven regional professional leagues, set to debut this Spring and function as qualifying events for the The Honor of Kings Esports World Cup (EWC), or KWC, scheduled for July 2025.

In the previous year, the KWC boasted a substantial prize purse of $3 million, and it was the Chinese heavyweight KPL Dream Team who took home the victory. This time around, various prominent entities are aiming to gather an abundance of club points in order to secure the EWC title. As a result, we can expect the competition to become noticeably more fierce.

Multiple groups have demonstrated their dedication towards the growing eSport scene for Honor of Kings, with teams like Team Vitality reinforcing their commitment by bringing in a fresh Chinese lineup of players. Similarly, Gen.G Esports from South Korea has entered the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region by acquiring Team Falcons’ roster, demonstrating their eagerness to invest in this rapidly expanding game.
