Offbeat and “amusing” sitcom branded “The Office meets Scrubs” is streaming on the BBC

The humorous medical comedy series, reminiscent of both The Office and Scrubs, titled St. Denis Medical, can now be streamed on BBC iPlayer.

As a devoted fan, I’d say this quirky mockumentary series takes us behind the scenes of the hardworking team at the Oregon Medical Center. Amidst the challenges of an underfunded hospital, they strive to keep their cool, juggling their roles as caregivers with unwavering professionalism and empathy towards their patients and colleagues.

Featuring a strong ensemble led by Wendi McLendon-Covey and Allison Tolman, the medical drama St. Denis Medical made its debut on NBC in November, swiftly securing a second season renewal from the network.

Although they’ve had to wait, UK viewers are now able to catch up on 18 episodes of the first season of the series set in a hospital, which have just been added to BBC iPlayer, giving them a chance to see the unfolding events at last.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the sitcom, featuring Josh Lawson and David Alan Grier in starring roles, has been met with widespread acclaim since its debut! According to Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts an impressive approval rating of 83% from 23 reviews during its first season. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for this fantastic show!

According to “The Times”, it’s both inspiring and insightful, though not necessarily side-splittingly funny. On the other hand, “The Wrap” described it as a cozy, familiar TV series that presents unexpected, sharp twists on the usual format.

The Los Angeles Times found it delightful, often amusing, slightly heartwarming with a touch of sentimentality, while the Boston Globe described the series as quite humorous and praised Grier’s acting.

The Hollywood Reporter echoed similar praise, considering the series as a must-see due to its strong ensemble cast. On the other hand, TIME Magazine hailed it as the most promising network comedy since Abbott Elementary.

The Daily Telegraph expressed some reservation, stating instead: “St. Denis Medical resembles a blend of ‘The Office’, ‘Scrubs’, ‘St. Elsewhere’, and ‘Parks and Recreation’. However, it falls short of matching the quality found in any of these shows.
