October 31 Will Be a Sad Day for Scooby-Doo Fans

Fans of Scooby-Doo have some bad news: two popular movies will no longer be available on streaming services starting Halloween 2025. Despite first appearing in 1969, Scooby-Doo remains incredibly popular, with new content still being released. Recent highlights include the animated film Scoob! (whose sequel, Holiday Hunt, was canceled along with the Batgirl movie), the Velma spin-off series created by Mindy Kaling for Max, and a team-up with DC Comics’ Krypto the Superdog in Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too!

Fans of Scooby-Doo will be disappointed on October 31st, as both Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed will no longer be available to stream on HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video in the United States.

HBO Max is making some changes to its programming, adding more shows for adults and families but reducing its offerings for children, as reported by Deadline. As a result, many Scooby-Doo titles – including classics like Scooby Doo, Where Are You! and The Scooby Doo Show, as well as other movies and series – have been removed from the streaming service.

The live-action Scooby Doo movies from the early 2000s starred several popular actors, including Matthew Lillard, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., Linda Cardellini, Isla Fisher, and Rowan Atkinson.

Interestingly, both films were directed by Raja Gosnell and written early in the career of James Gunn, who is now a co-CEO at DC Studios. Gunn is also known for directing the popular Guardians of the Galaxy movies for Marvel Studios.

With Halloween approaching, many fans are sad that the Scooby-Doo movies aren’t available to stream this year. These films have been a popular choice for spooky season viewing for the past twenty years.

Luckily, you can still find some Scooby-Doo shows on streaming services. HBO Max has Scoob, Velma, and Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo, while Netflix offers Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated. And if you have Tubi, you can still watch the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?

What’s Next for Live-Action Scooby-Doo?

The recent disappearance of Scooby-Doo movies from both HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video is probably due to the streaming rights for those films expiring, combined with Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision to reduce the amount of children’s programming available on HBO Max.

Fans are hoping the popular live-action shows will become available on a different streaming service, like Netflix or Tubi. Netflix seems like a good possibility, as they’re currently developing a live-action Scooby-Doo series that appears to be trying to capture the same vibe as Stranger Things.

Netflix ordered a new eight-episode Scooby-Doo series in March, planning a modern take on the classic with a teenage cast. While there was talk of starting production this fall, it now seems unlikely to happen then due to a lack of recent news.
