Oar-kward! Emma Watson swaps Rowling for rowing as she lands role coxing her Oxford college team… but gets trounced

As swotty Hermione Granger, she had a reputation as one of the bossiest pupils at Hogwarts.

Currently, the same energetic drive that propelled her earlier, is now aiding actress Emma Watson in her latest endeavor – guiding her Oxford college‘s rowing eight as a coxswain.

Yesterday, we took unique photos that showed her giving orders to the third-ranked women’s team at New College, but sadly, all her hard work didn’t pay off because her squad ended up losing three out of their four competitions throughout the week.

Instead of pouring salt on an open wound, opponents from Jesus College chose to play the Harry Potter theme song following their win – yet the actress graciously accepted their jests.

After their team lost the final race, she kept her composure and showed good sportsmanship by offering a thumbs-up to her opponents from Somerville College.

Since the year 2023, Ms. Watson has been attending Oxford University, having opted to pause her acting career temporarily to pursue a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing at Lady Margaret Hall.

She has since reportedly progressed to a DPhil – Oxford’s version of a PhD – at New College.

In the role of a coxswain, a 35-year-old woman guided her team through the Isis (which is known as the Thames in Oxford) during the yearly Summer Eights rowing contest held by the university.

She put on Ray-Ban shades and a white baseball cap, as her team sported purple facial paint and bound their hair with purple bands – all in line with the boat club’s colors.

Teams initially position themselves a boat and a half’s distance away from each other, with the objective being to overtake, or ‘collide’, with the team in front of them.

As a devoted fan, I must admit that the actress’s crew endured an unfortunate series of events four times out of four. This meant that they came dangerously close to experiencing the embarrassment associated with being referred to as a ‘spoon’, a term used when a boat is bumped daily.

It is possible that Ms. Watson’s absence from the compulsory cox briefing prior to the start of the competition, which some claim occurred due to her being at the Cannes Film Festival, may have affected the team’s performance.

It was a rare appearance at the event for Ms Watson, whose last film was Little Women in 2019.

At Oxford University, it’s rumored that Miss Watson has been dating Kieran Brown, a recent Ph.D. graduate from the same institution. Last year, they were seen sharing a kiss at a bakery called Gail’s located within the city.

MS Watson, who represents Prada and co-owns the gin company Renais, has found herself in disagreement with J.K. Rowling regarding her stance on transgender matters.
