As a dedicated follower of sports and property market trends, I must say, the retirement of NRL star Corey Oates has left me both saddened and intrigued. Having grown up in the bush himself, it’s heartening to see him achieve such great heights in his career with the Brisbane Broncos, scoring a try in their 2015 grand final loss, and representing Queensland in nine State of Origin appearances.

A gorgeous Queensland country property owned by retired NRL star Corey Oates has hit the market.

In 2019, the ex-Brisbane Broncos player, who is now 30 years old, along with his wife Tegan, bought a 9560 square meter rural property for approximately $880,000.

2021 saw the completion of a cutting-edge residence nestled within Samford Valley, roughly a 45-minute drive northwest from Brisbane.

No price has been listed for the sprawling holding, that features six bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Instead, real estate agents estimating the average price of comparable properties in the vicinity suggest it’s approximately $1,850,000.

Nestled atop a hill, just a short 30-minute drive away from the city center, this charming homestead boasts a U-shaped design with distinct sections for sleeping quarters and common areas. The breathtaking vistas of the nearby countryside are a delightful addition to its appeal.

Distinct features you’ll appreciate are a spacious master bedroom with a walk-through closet and bespoke cabinetry, accompanied by an opulent bathroom featuring double sinks and a grand bathtub.

Moreover, this property boasts a game lounge equipped with a bar, a generously sized personal study, an extra bedroom for guests, and a substantial private dining area as well.

Additional amenities encompass a home theater, a swimming pool accompanied by a spacious recreation platform, and a social area equipped with an integrated grill, perfect for gatherings.

Ever since Oates declared his retirement from the field this month, I’ve found myself absolutely captivated by the news. It’s like a piece of my heart has been left out there on that field where he played!

However, this couple, with a growing family, revealed to The Courier Mail on Tuesday that leaving their rural property was part of a strategic, long-term decision to relocate nearer to Brisbane as their kids matured.

Oates has announced his retirement having been hindered by injuries over the past two years.

He did not hold a contract for next season and was bowing out from the NRL after 216 first-grade games.

Upon retiring, Oates expressed that representing the Broncos was something he hadn’t imagined possible, having grown up in rural areas.

Oates played his entire NRL career with the Broncos, making his debut in 2013.

In the 2015 club grand final that ended in defeat against North Queensland, he managed to score a try. Among his teammates from that match, he was the only one who stayed with the Broncos for the longest period of time.

Over the years, I’ve been privileged to don the maroon jersey nine times for the mighty Queensland team, with my proudest moments coming during our triumphant runs in 2016, 2017, and most recently, 2022. Being a part of those series wins has been an absolute dream come true!

He also served as the 18th man for the Broncos during their 2023 grand final loss to Penrith.

Last December, The Courier Mail announced that Oates had made substantial real estate purchases throughout the previous five years.

Beyond his property in Samford Valley, he also bought an apartment in Everton Park, Brisbane, for $610,000 back in 2017, and obtained a home in Ipswich for $190,000 during the same year.
