Nova radio host Tim Blackwell reveals he felt like a failure as he breaks his silence following his split from wife Monique after THOSE Kate Ritchie rumours
As a seasoned radio personality myself, I can only admire the dynamic and evolving landscape of Australian radio. The recent changes in the Nova FM lineup have been quite intriguing to follow.
Tim Blackwell has finally addressed his marriage breakdown almost one year after his split from wife Monique after 14 years of marriage.
In a post on Instagram last December, the ex-spouse of the radio host from Nova made it known that their union had officially concluded.
Speaking with Missy Higgins on the latest episode of his podcast, Introducing With Tim Blackwell, the Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel drive show co-host opened up about co-parenting his three children he shares with Monique.
The couple co-parent Bo, 11, Alfie, eight, and Artie, five.
At 43 years old, he confessed with deep sadness that he perceived himself as unsuccessful, not only in his marriage but also in relation to his children, following the end of his marriage.
He said to Missy, “It seems like you believe you didn’t succeed… Well, I undeniably struggled in my marriage, check. But it appears you also feel that you may have fallen short as a parent.
Tim added that some of the singer-songwriter’s lyrics in her track A Complicated Truth resonated with him.
‘You realise I’m still in it, like you are,’ he continued.
In our role as co-parents, we’re not only connected but also continuing to cultivate our relationship, albeit in a new form. Essentially, we’re putting extra effort into rebuilding and nurturing the bond that has changed over time.
Since Monique announced their split on Instagram, Tim has chosen not to speak about it publicly.
On December 10, Monique broke the sad news to friends and fans of the couple.

She expressed her gratitude ahead of time for your heartfelt messages of affection, encouragement, and sorrow upon learning that Tim and I have parted ways.
‘Our babes are forever supported by Tim’s and my love for them.’
In their summary, the entrepreneur and yoga instructor noted that their friendship serves as an enduring source of strength within their family, particularly as they jointly nurture their children to grow into lifelong friends.
They met during the biggest day in Tim’s career.
In an interview with Stellar magazine of The Daily Telegraph back in 2018, this radio figurehead disclosed that their paths crossed in 2002 when he relocated to the city and started hosting the local drive-time program on Nova 93.7 FM.
He expressed, “This is quite possibly the most stereotypical tale of a radio enthusiast – it was undeniably a significant milestone in my professional journey and without a doubt, the most memorable day in terms of my romantic experiences.
In that situation, all the important figures from the city and the media were present. I felt both terrified and excited, a mix of fear and thrill.
After everything wrapped up, we descended downstairs for a massive launch event, where Monique, who was on the promotions team at the time, attended. With newly found bravery, I approached her and said, “I’m new to Perth, and if you don’t mind, I’d like to invite you out for coffee or something.
The news comes after Blackwell appeared to have confirmed rumours of a feud between him and Kate Ritchie.
In a subtle manner, the radio host appeared to suggest a disagreement with his ex-Nova FM co-host, as he made a sarcastic remark in response to questions regarding her exit from the drive-time program on the Shock Jocks podcast.
When asked what prompted Kate’s exit, Tim responded: ‘That’s a question for her, I know nothing.’
He then added: ‘I think it ran its course and I think she wanted a new opportunity… and [new host] Ricki-Lee Coulter was around as well.’
Tim spoke fondly of his new co-host, saying ‘she’s powerful, vocal and the female version of him’.
He went on to say: “She’s quite independent in her decision-making, she clearly expresses her desires, she’s strong and influential, and she has unique ideas – all qualities that make us adore her dearly.
In 2023, Ricki-Lee stepped into Kate’s role on the revamped show, which was subsequently named The Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel Show.
Kate had quit the show following a long absence and stint at rehab for alcohol dependency.
Ricki-Lee expressed her great joy at joining Tim and Joel Creasey for the upcoming segment.
She expressed, “Tim and Joel feel like the brothers I’ve longed for but never had, yet always yearned for. And let me tell you, working together in the studio has been an absolute blast! They truly excel in their field.
I hold a tremendous amount of affection for Kate, and I’m incredibly joyful about my ability to contribute to the Drive show during the past year. I’m thrilled beyond words to now become an official member of the Nova team!
Kate is now starring on Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie, also on Nova.
Simultaneously, Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli’s fellow host Sarah McGilvray experienced a tough departure from the program, paving the way for Kate to make her grand entrance.
The team at Nova FM expressed their surprise and bewilderment upon the unexpected departure of Fitzy and Wippa’s longtime co-host.
