Noughties pop star who battled drug and alcohol addiction looks a far cry from his heyday as he shares unrecognisable photo

As an ardent fan who has followed Daniel Powter’s journey since his “Bad Day” era, it’s truly heartening to see him thrive today. The Canadian singer’s life story is a testament to resilience and the power of redemption. From battling addiction and personal struggles to reclaiming his life and music, Daniel has shown an extraordinary strength that is both inspiring and humbling.

90’s pop sensation Daniel Powter appeared quite different from his peak years, as he posted a barely-resembling image on Instagram.

The 53-year-old musician, having struggled with substance abuse issues for a span of five years following the success of his song in 2005, is widely recognized due to his popular hit “Bad Day,” which often characterizes him as a one-hit wonder.

Approaching two decades since Daniel first unveiled his iconic hit single, Daniel now appears vastly different from his chart-topping days.

The popular Canadian musician continues to bask in the success of his chart-topping single on various social platforms, as it reached the second spot in the UK rankings. He’s been performing this global sensation all over the globe.

Outside of his professional life, Daniel is affectionately known as the dad of his three kids – two girls and a boy.

The hitmaker has been very open about beating his cocaine and alcohol habit in the past.

In 2005, the tune off his self-titled first album garnered the highest number of plays across Europe, was featured in a Coca-Cola advertising campaign, and set the record as the top-selling digital single in the United States.

In 2008, Daniel explained that the song was ‘so big that it almost eclipsed me as an artist’.

Following the triumph of Bad Days, Daniel took a two-year hiatus for rehabilitation and to rejuvenate his exhausted energy reserves.

In the past, I openly admitted to DailyMail that my actions were heavily impacted by my use of substances like drugs and alcohol.

Daniel, too, expressed his belief that using drugs was a means of embodying the “pop star persona” during his time at the height of his popularity.

He added: ‘I thought maybe I should sleep with hundreds of women and do drugs on the road to live up to the pop star image, when really I’m just a regular guy.

However, I drifted away from the real world, and what ultimately led me to seek treatment in a rehabilitation center was my overwhelming fearfulness and extreme weight loss. At that point, I was at risk of losing my life.

In 2016, Daniel admitted to Metro that his cocaine addiction led to a chaotic divorce.

‘I became a slave to it and ended up managing my life around it’, he told the publication.

Daniel admitted his addictions had an ‘enormous’ effect on him and his career.

He said: ‘It wasn’t a problem for the first year and a half but as the years went by it got worse until I got to a point where I couldn’t remember what was happening. It was a bad place and I decided to change my life.

Embarking on sobriety is a significant leap, indeed it’s challenging. You’ve built connections centered around your intoxication, and these companions might not be the most beneficial when you decide to live a sober life. Instead, focus on forging new relationships with individuals who support and uplift your journey towards sobriety and personal growth.

Transforming oneself and one’s connections, as well as distancing from negative individuals, can prove challenging due to its duration and intensity. However, this process paves the way for me to return to playing music once more and find joy in life.

Following his conquest over personal struggles, this renowned figure has been tirelessly promoting his popular tune across the globe and made an appearance on Canada’s Got Talent in October.

The singer shocked the judges when he appeared on stage as a regular contestant but then started belting out his classic.
