Pop duo the Cheeky Girls surprised their fans with a recent Instagram video over the Christmas holidays, leading many to comment on how youthful they still look.
Identical twins Monica Taylor and Gabriela Irimia, known for their popular song “The Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum)”, shared festive Christmas greetings with their fans and looked fantastic doing so.
The singing pair, getting ready to launch their new song ‘Drive,’ showed off their fit bodies while wearing matching gold skater dresses.
Monica and Gabriela wished their fans a happy new year while standing in front of their Christmas tree, playfully calling it a ‘cheeky’ one.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always fascinated by how people react to celebrities who seem to defy age! Recently, I noticed their fans were absolutely blown away by how youthful they looked. The comments were just overflowing with praise – things like ‘Beautiful!’, ‘Looking fabulous ladies! Happy Christmas!’, and so many people saying they looked ‘Ageless’ or even ‘Exactly the same! Gorgeous!’ It’s lovely to see such positive reactions.
The popular music duo revealed the key to their fit bodies in an interview with The Sun, jokingly saying they follow a few firm rules: no food after 7 p.m., daily exercise, and plenty of intimacy.
Gabriela was once engaged to former MP Lembit Opik, whom she described as a kind person before she met her current partner, Adam Zubek, seven years ago.
Monica married building contractor Shaun Taylor in 2016.
The pair found fame overnight when they auditioned for Popstars: The Rivals back in 2002.
After two decades of success, the group returned in 2022 with a new single, marking their big comeback.
The band announced they’re back with a new song called “Let’s Have Fun,” sharing the news on Instagram.
The Romanian pop duo’s latest song was penned by their mother, Margit, who also wrote their breakout hit and previously managed their careers before they competed on ITV’s talent show.
The song stays true to its playful style, with the chorus repeating: ‘We just want to have fun, cheeky-cheeky. Two of us is better than one, mm-mm. We just want to have twice as much fun, two of us is better than one.’
Even though they received some negative feedback when they first became famous, The Cheeky Girls had four songs reach the top 10 between 2002 and 2004, and at their most popular, they performed for audiences as large as 100,000 people.
The single ‘The Cheeky Song,’ which includes the lyric ‘Don’t be shy, touch my bum, this is life,’ sold over 1.2 million copies around the world.
Things got really tough for them, quickly. It felt like everything fell apart – they faced financial ruin, serious health problems, and deeply painful personal losses. It was a truly devastating time, hitting what felt like the absolute lowest point imaginable.
Gabriela and Monica have both settled into typical jobs working in car sales, though they aren’t currently working at the same dealership.
Gabi currently works at a Hyundai dealership in York. Her twin sister, Monica, who is ten minutes younger, has worked at a different Hyundai dealership in Boston, Lincolnshire for several years.
Gabriela said: ‘We are in competition’ with Monica adding: ‘Who can sell the most cars?’
Monica confidently declared herself the stronger salesperson, explaining that she had more experience in the car industry than her sister. While acknowledging her sister was older, she playfully pointed out that her sister had actually learned from her example.
In October 2021, the sisters shared with TopMob how much they enjoyed their work and expressed their dream of eventually owning their own dealership.
Honestly, it drives me crazy! It’s like, people here just assume that if you’ve ever been famous – a singer, an actor, whatever – you’re not allowed to, you know, change and try something totally different with your life. It’s so limiting! Like we’re supposed to stay in these little boxes forever. It’s really frustrating to watch, honestly.
I’ve always believed there’s no disgrace in working – in fact, it’s better to work than not to. We’ve decided on a different career, and we’re extremely proud of that decision.
Gabi explained that she loves cars, and enjoys the excitement of making a sale and seeing customers happy.
