Notre Dame Raffles Off Fire-Damaged Stones for Restoration Funds

50 pieces of stone debris from the Notre Dame Cathedral, damaged during the 2019 fire, are being raffled off to help finance the restoration of France’s historic religious landmarks. Each stone fragment bears an engraving of the cathedral’s outline and represents a piece of history from this renowned structure.

To join this event, individuals must be 18 years old or older and contribute a minimum of $43 USD by April 4th via The Heritage Foundation’s website. On April 15th, the date commemorating the fire, the winners will be revealed. As per Artnews, the stones cannot be bought, given away, or exchanged.

To date, the foundation has garnered $247 million USD out of the $912 million USD targeted for the complete restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral. Following a colossal endeavor involving approximately 2,000 craftspeople, the cathedral reopened in December. These dedicated artisans restored 14,000 square feet of stonework, cleaned 8,000 organ pipes, and handcrafted 1,500 new oak pews. A raffle serves as one means to continue funding preservation initiatives for France’s threatened national treasures.
