So, Nothing just dropped their Ear (3) earbuds! As someone who loved the look and feel of the Ear (1) and Phone (3), I was really excited to see these. Basically, they’ve taken everything that made the Ear (2) cool – that clear, see-through design – and seriously upgraded the materials, sound quality, and how easy they are to use. It sounds like a big step up!
The biggest change is a completely redesigned charging case made from recycled aluminum, replacing the plastic case of the previous model. The earbuds themselves keep their simple design, but now have stylish metal details. A new “Talk” button on the case turns on Nothing’s advanced microphone system, which uses two microphones to block out background noise – up to 95 decibels – for clearer calls and voice recordings. This feature wasn’t available on the earlier version.
Each earbud contains three microphones that pinpoint sound direction, plus a special Voice Pickup Unit (VPU) which captures vibrations from your jaw and ear to clearly isolate your voice. Noise cancellation intelligently reduces distracting sounds by up to 45 dB – an improvement over the previous model – and a transparency mode lets you easily hear what’s happening around you when you want to.
The Ear (3) earbuds are built for great sound and ease of use. You can listen for up to 10 hours on a single charge (without noise cancellation), and the included charging case extends that to 38 hours. A quick 10-minute charge gives you 10 hours of listening time, and they also support wireless charging. Other features include simple touch controls, automatic pausing when you remove an earbud, a special low-latency mode for gaming, protection against water and dust (IP54 rating), and the ability to connect to ChatGPT through the Nothing X app.
The Ear (3) comes in Black and White and costs $179 USD. You can pre-order it now, and it will officially be available for purchase starting September 25, 2025.
