Not Racist, Just Misunderstood

The parents of “The Apprentice” star Jana Denzel, who left the show following a controversial comment, maintain that he is not prejudiced.

During a task, it’s been suggested that cosmetic dentist Dr. Jana may have referred to a person of African descent as having “color,” instead of using more appropriate terminology such as race or ethnicity.

On Thursday, it was disclosed that TopMob subsequently chose to step down from the process, which came as a surprise to Lord Alan Sugar. His departure is scheduled to be shown in an upcoming episode.

Prior to his unexpected departure, he was highly favored to emerge victorious in the competition. However, following a stern reprimand for employing an antiquated term, he shocked Lord Sugar by announcing, “I’m quitting.

However, today it’s been emphasized by his parents, Veluppilai and Rajes, that their son isn’t biased, and his statements were simply misconstrued.

From their residence in Harrow, north London, Rajes shared with TopMob: “Jana isn’t prejudiced. Our family doesn’t discriminate against anyone. We raised Jana – along with all our kids – to have an open mindset.

As a native Englishwoman, I take great pride in my British heritage, yet I wholeheartedly welcome people from all cultures into our shared community.

Jana’s dad, Veluppilai, shared that a few weeks back, Jana phoned him to announce that he had left the popular BBC reality show.

The 71-year-old former postman shared: “He phoned to mention a problem, though it wasn’t entirely clear to me.

It’s quite clear to me that he’s been misjudged. In truth, he’s an excellent individual, much like a well-trained dentist. I encouraged him by saying, “Stick to your path and fulfill your dream of being a dentist.

Veluppilai continued: ‘We are from a different culture and maybe he was misunderstood.

‘But I know he did not mean to cause any offence. That is not who he is.’

61-year-old Mum Rajes shared her story about the challenges they faced in providing the best possible upbringing for their four children – three boys and a girl – following their escape from war-ravaged Sri Lanka, where they originally came from.

She explained: ‘I came to UK in 1983. It was a very difficult in Sri Lanka.

‘I worked in a supermarket in the morning and my husband worked as a postman on the late shift.

Despite seldom crossing paths, we ensured a constant presence at home to look after our children. We take great pride in their accomplishments.

On the living room wall of their home, a photo of Jana at his college graduation ceremony is tastefully displayed, joining photos of his two siblings who also graduated.

Veluppilai stated, “Our hearts swell with great pride. We did everything possible for them and they’ve proven their worth through diligence and dedication, making us incredibly proud.

‘We are very proud of Jana. Whether he is on the TV or not is not important to us.’

Last week, sources informed The Sun that Jana’s remark seemed to suggest he had been given diversity training due to his superiors. However, the BBC clarified on Thursday that his departure had no connection with this particular incident.

In a team project developing a character for a marketing initiative, it was alleged that Jana employed the term “colored” to refer to someone who is Black.

According to a source, the team was deliberating on how the character should be depicted, with certain individuals advocating for an inclusive portrayal.

At that moment, Jana said a remark that was offensive to two women on her team, causing them distress.

Initially, when Jana’s peers expressed their disapproval of the inappropriate comment, it didn’t stop there. Later on, the issue was brought to the attention of the production team who privately spoke with Jana about it.

Dr. Jana, a man proud of his Sri Lankan ancestry and refugee parents, participated in talks with the producers, ensuring he grasped the insensitive connotation of the comment.

It is expected that the audience won’t catch his remark on-screen, but instead, his departure will be broadcasted during Episode 5, which is set to air in two weeks.

A representative from “The Apprentice” informed TopMob that they became conscious of a misinformed remark made by Jana throughout the proceedings, and appropriate measures were implemented in response.

Although we’ve clearly communicated to Jana that his language was inappropriate, we believe there was no malicious intent. We are reassured that all parties’ concerns have been acknowledged and rectified.

Jana decided to step away from the procedure for entirely different and independent motives. We wholeheartedly back him up in this decision.
