Get ready for some emotional turmoil! Next week, I’ll be immersed in the romantic drama of the 1980s titled “Mix Tape,” airing on BBC Two. It promises to tug at my heartstrings!
As I dive into this intriguing tale, I find myself playing the role of Daniel and Alison, skillfully portrayed by Jim Sturgess from “One Day” and Teresa Palmer from “A Discovery of Witches.” In this captivating series, we’ll traverse two distinct timelines, uncovering missed opportunities that shaped our characters.
Starting as teenage sweethearts in Sheffield back in 1989 (portrayed by Florence Hunt from ‘Bridgerton’ and debutant Rory Walton-Smith), they later found themselves strangers living on opposite ends of the globe. However, fate brought them back together through a song from their shared past.
In the wake of their sudden parting, Alison and Daniel ponder whether fate intended them for each other, even though they’re unsure about what that entails.
Set to a backdrop of new wave classics, the trailer for “Mix Tape” features “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, fittingly so. Beginning on BBC Two from 15th July, every episode will be available on iPlayer ahead of the broadcast.
This show unfolds across two separate time periods and contrasting backdrops, primarily focusing on Sheffield during the current era and in the 1980s narrative.
Concurrently, action shifts to modern-day Sydney, in the southern hemisphere, where Alison currently resides.
In essence, the television series titled “Mix Tape” explores the ethical quandary central to its narrative. It poses the question: Is rekindling a relationship with a past love, who once slipped away, worth jeopardizing everything you’ve built – a seemingly content marriage and a family?
Additionally, Mary & George, played by Mark O’Halloran, Helen Behan, Conor Sánchez, Jonathan Harden, and Siobhan O’Kelly, as well as Sara Soulié and Guardians of the Galaxy actor Alexis Rodney, are also part of this production.
The Aussie cast includes Ben Lawson, Julia Savage, Jacqueline McKenzie and Chika Ikogwe.
The film “Mix Tape” is helmed by director Lucy Gaffy, with a screenplay penned by Jo Spain, who is renowned for her work. This movie is based on the highly praised novel of the same title authored by Jane Sanderson.
Beginning at 6 am on Tuesday, 15th July, you can watch the complete Mix Tape on BBC iPlayer. Later in the day, at 9 pm, it will also be broadcasted on BBC Two.
