A highly anticipated new historical drama series, called Royal Blood, has been officially approved for production. Variety called it “one of Scandinavia’s most ambitious TV dramas.” The series will be produced by Miso Film, a Nordic company now owned by Fremantle, a major global television production and distribution company.
Miso Film will produce a new drama series with support from the Scandi Alliance – a partnership of TV2 Norway, TV4 Sweden, and TV2 Denmark, as reported by Variety. Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2027.
According to Variety, the new series Royal Blood follows a small circle of powerful people in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. They must balance their personal desires and loyalties with the weight of national implications as they pursue their ambitions.

The project has attracted a talented team of creators. It was developed by Nanna Westh, who also created Cry Wolf, a critically acclaimed and intricate Danish drama that aired on Channel 4.
Erik Richter Strand from Norway will direct the project. He’s previously worked on popular shows like Netflix’s The Crown and ITV’s I Fought The Law, which starred Sheridan Smith.

At the Göteborg Film Festival’s TV Drama Vision, Alice Sommer, head of drama at TV2 Norway, announced the new series. She explained that the show, titled Royal Blood, tells a story relevant to Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, focusing on a pivotal moment in history that continues to influence the three nations today.
Sommer stated they are thrilled to support this large-scale project as the first major series from the Scandi Alliance. With Erik Richter Strand directing and Miso Film’s history of creating high-quality dramas, they believe the series will connect with modern viewers and raise the bar for historical dramas from the Nordic region.
Miso Film producer Kristin Ulseth explained that despite being set in the past, the story feels very relevant today, creating a compelling and thought-provoking drama that reflects issues we still face.
Having Erik Richter Strand on board, especially with his work on The Crown, gives us confidence that Royal Blood will be both grand in scope and deeply personal, feeling cinematic and genuinely relatable.
