Noel Gallagher’s guitar that was ‘smashed up’ by Liam when Oasis split after bitter fight sells at auction for huge amount

The guitar Noel Gallagher had during the Oasis breakup, famously damaged by Liam, recently sold for a very high price at auction.

During the band’s last concert in 2009 at the Rock En Seine festival in Paris, a 1960s cherry red Gibson ES-355 guitar was damaged following a disagreement backstage.

According to reports an argument broke out, with Liam wielding Noel’s guitar around ‘like an axe’.

It was the last straw for the duo and the show was cancelled, along with the rest of the tour.

After a restoration, the guitar was sold at auction by Propstore on Thursday for £289,800.

A memorabilia auction in London featured over 400 items from iconic artists and bands, including Oasis, Abba, Kiss, John Lennon, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, and Jimi Hendrix.

Noel announced during their Paris concert that he was leaving Oasis, expressing both sadness and relief about the decision.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I couldn’t continue working with Liam for even one more day.

A few days later, Noel released another statement called ‘Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere’, where he explained that the specifics weren’t important and there were simply too many to mention.

I believe you deserve to know that the threats and aggressive behavior directed at me, my family, friends, and colleagues have become unacceptable.

Because my manager and bandmates haven’t offered the support I needed, I’ve decided to leave and pursue other opportunities.

John Robb’s book, Live Forever, reveals just how acrimonious the band’s breakup actually was.

Everyone is hoping this tour goes smoothly, as fans and friends remember a major backstage disagreement in 2009 that took years to resolve.

One witness said: ‘Liam was goading Noel constantly and then the two snapped.’

Another witness recalled seeing real punches thrown, and Liam destroying one of Noel’s guitars. They described Liam as being completely out of control.

According to witnesses, the man was extremely upset and used a lot of profanity. Paramedics and security personnel were summoned, and Noel left the area immediately. The incident was described as a very violent and disturbing fight.

After the band broke up, the two musicians went their separate ways. However, after 15 years of conflict, they finally resolved their differences and came together for a hugely successful world tour this summer.

The brothers are continuing their tour with stops in South Korea, Hong Kong, and Australia. They’ll then head to South America for five more shows, finishing up in São Paulo on November 23rd.
