Noel Gallagher responds to rumours Oasis will record the next James Bond theme

Noel Gallagher has dismissed speculation that Oasis might record the next James Bond theme song, stating they haven’t been contacted about the project.

Last August, Steven Knight, a 65-year-old British screenwriter, was confirmed to be writing the next James Bond movie.

Amazon MGM were said to have lined-up the iconic Brit-pop band to be the voice of the soundtrack.

Noel Gallagher quickly dismissed rumors about Oasis potentially performing the James Bond theme song during a Monday interview on TalkSport, stating simply, ‘No.’

He did add that Oasis would be interested in penning a future theme tune if they were approached.

He happily agreed, saying it would be a real privilege, and he felt it was something best done by people from Britain, not the United States.

Despite confirming Oasis hadn’t been approached about a James Bond theme song, Noel Gallagher playfully suggested he’d be interested in portraying a villain with a Manchester accent in a future Bond film.

The Gallagher brothers, who ended a 16-year feud to reunite for a hugely successful tour this summer, are considering a major step forward.

In 2008, a James Bond fan named Noel expressed disappointment that the soundtrack for the iconic British spy featured American artists. He was specifically referring to the song ‘Another Way To Die’ by Alicia Keys and Jack White, which served as the theme for ‘Quantum of Solace’.

At the time, he claimed that an unreleased song of his, Freaky Teeth, would be a great Bond theme.

He realized while listening to the track that it would be perfect as a James Bond theme song. He jokingly added that it felt odd the iconic British spy was usually scored by American musicians.

Steven Knight is the writer behind the popular BBC crime series Peaky Blinders, featuring Cillian Murphy, which will continue with a film in 2026. His latest historical drama, House of Guinness, recently premiered on Netflix this fall.

Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce the film through their production companies, Pascal Pictures and Heyday Films. Tanya Lapointe will be an executive producer on the project.

Steven enjoys writing and finds it both exciting and thrilling, but he prefers a relaxed, unstructured approach to his screenplay.

He said: ‘I have no plan of how I’m going to get there.

I know what this character will do and how their story will end – either they’ll die, or they’ll become king. That’s the basic outline of the plot.

Last month, Steven shared with BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast that being involved in the film was a lifelong dream come true, and he was thrilled to finally begin working on it.

As a lifelong Bond fan, I hope my passion for the series will inspire me to create something that feels both familiar and fresh – something even more exciting and impactful than what’s come before.

Several actors are being considered to take over the role, including Taron Egerton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Mescal, and Theo James.

When asked about the next James Bond, he said it was a great question, but he wasn’t able to say who it would be.

The most recent James Bond film was No Time To Die, released in 2021. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Cary Joji Fukunaga all contributed to the screenplay.

Steven explained that he was surprised when producer Amy Pascal invited him to a meeting, but he quickly learned what it was about and became very enthusiastic and optimistic.

Typically, a series of meetings and discussions take place, and eventually, you learn you’ve been selected.

‘So I found out a while ago but it was announced last night, which is great.’

He described the job as demanding, but emphasized the importance of simply doing your best work.
