I was surprised to see Nobody Wants This hit number one on Netflix when it dropped, but the actual viewership numbers tell a slightly different tale. Season two, which came out on October 23rd, has gotten 8.6 million views and a total of 38.1 million hours watched. That’s a bit lower than the first season, which pulled in 10.3 million views and 45.7 million hours during its first week. It’s interesting to see how the numbers compare!
In the film Nobody Wants This, Kristen Bell and Brody play a couple, Joanne and Noah, navigating a relationship complicated by their different faiths – Joanne doesn’t identify with any religion, while Noah is a rabbi. Adding to the mix, Joanne co-hosts a podcast with her sister.
The show Nobody Wants has received several award nominations, including for Outstanding Comedy Series, and acting nominations for both its leads, Brody and Bell, at the 2025 Emmys. Brody also won Best Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2025 Critics’ Choice Awards.
The series launched to widespread praise and earned a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers highlighted its realistic portrayal of an interfaith relationship and the strong connection between actors Bell and Brody.
The second season of Nobody Wants This received a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Although still generally positive, this is a noticeable decrease from the first season’s score and reflects the fact that fewer people watched it.
To make matters worse, Bell faced criticism online after sharing an Instagram post celebrating her 12th wedding anniversary with Dax Shepard. The post included a quote from Shepard where he jokingly said he wouldn’t kill her, referencing the fact that many men tragically have killed their wives.
The post was criticized for being inappropriate, especially because it was shared during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. It doesn’t appear the poster, Bell, realized the timing was problematic when she shared what she intended as a funny message.
It’s not yet known if the recent controversy surrounding Bell has affected how many people are watching the new season of Nobody Wants This. Regardless, the initial viewership numbers are really important for deciding the show’s future on Netflix. Whether or not Bell and Brody get a third season will depend on how well the show performs.
