Millennium Media is currently working on a prequel to the popular Rambo series, named John Rambo. Aspiring actor Noah Centineo has been signed to portray the renowned character originally played by Sylvester Stallone. Jalmari Helander will direct the film, while writing team Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani are on board for the screenplay.
The upcoming movie will focus on John Rambo’s backstory, set during his service as a top-tier Green Beret soldier in the Vietnam War. Unlike previous movies, this version offers an in-depth look into the personal and military experiences that transformed Rambo into the troubled veteran introduced in the 1982 film First Blood.
The choice of Noah Centineo for the Rambo reboot has ignited a lot of discussion because he is primarily recognized for his work in romantic comedies such as the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series. However, his versatility has been proven through recent appearances in action-based productions like Netflix’s The Recruit and Warfare. By taking on the Rambo role, Centineo is stepping into a franchise that started with the 1982 film First Blood, which launched the five-film series based on David Morrell’s 1972 novel of the same name.
Although specifics about the storyline remain secret, it’s anticipated that the movie will start filming in 2026. Interestingly, Sylvester Stallone has been informed about the project but won’t be actively participating, allowing for a fresh perspective on the series.
