NiP storm back into S-Tier playoffs at PGL Astana at expense of weakened G2
NiP is back in the playoffs of an S-tier CS2 tournament for the first time in over a year.
At PGL Astana, team G2 suffered a setback and had to regroup after being defeated by NiP in the final round of the Swiss stage. The Swedish team, NiP, emerged victorious with a 2-0 score (13-10, 13-10), causing disarray for the visa-affected G2 squad. This defeat forced an early departure to the U.S., where they will prepare for IEM Dallas and the Austin Major.
* A significant victory propels NiP back into the top 30, marking a year’s progress since they last contested an S-tier playoff at the YaLLa Compass 2024 tournament.
Young NiP squad show resilience with G2 sweep at PGL Astana
NiP’s victories in Astana weren’t particularly spectacular; they defeated a struggling Virtus.pro, an underdog team HOTU, and now a G2 squad dealing with stand-ins and visa complications. However, this is a notable advancement for the organization that has otherwise been insignificant in CS:2.
In their first appearance at this stage, the fresh NiP team managed to fend off a comeback attempt by G2 in the two-map contest, securing a spot among NaVi, MongolZ, Spirit, Astralis, and FURIA in the PGL Astana playoffs. Leading the charge for NiP was Rafael “arrozdoce” Wing, who boasted a 35-30 scoreline, an ADR of 97, and a 1.28 HLTV rating.
Initially, NiP enjoyed a significant 10-2 advantage over G2 on Dust 2, playing the Terrorist side. However, as the game progressed, G2 started to show signs of recovery while defending, with a standout performance from their temporary AWPer, Olek “hades” Miskiewicz. Despite his lively play, hades was unable to single-handedly bring the match back in favor of G2.
The NiP squad managed to accomplish the victory sweep on the map Nuke, with each of its five members achieving double-digit kills. The final 13-10 win was sealed spectacularly by the team’s Ukrainian AWPer, Artem “r1nkle”, who delivered an impressive four-kill finish.
Rasmus “sjuush” Beck has been leading the way for NiP in Astana this week, yet when asked if he thought the team would return to a top-tier playoff stage so soon, he expressed no astonishment. In the post-game analysis on the commentator’s desk, he stated, “I wouldn’t call it surprising. At first, things seemed a bit rocky, but I could notice the potential growing at an incredibly rapid pace.
When I became part of the team, I realized I needed to contribute more. I’m much more communicative, I organize numerous matches, and I assist Snappi with many tasks… I believe I perform better due to having stronger foundations in my personal life, providing me with more stability.
From a place where I stand, cheering every move, NiP fought back from a 0-2 deficit in the Swiss stage, pulling off a reverse sweep against G2 to secure their spot in the playoffs. Tomorrow, they’ll continue their journey with dreams of an unexpected title. On the other hand, G2’s PGL Astana adventure falls short as they exit early.
