Nintendo reveals the Switch 2 will support up to 4k 60fps
Get ready for top tier visuals on the Switch 2.
In a Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2nd, Nintendo revealed significant details about the upcoming Switch 2 console. Among these revelations were responses to key questions regarding new features, release date, price, and whether the Switch 2 would support resolutions such as 1080p, 1440p, or even 4k. The presentation also addressed the frame rates that will be compatible with the device.
Nintendo systems have typically marched to their own beat compared to competitors, setting themselves apart not by incorporating the latest and most potent hardware, but through distinctive features, mechanics, and an exclusive library of games.
So, here is everything announced today about the Switch 2 and its support for 4k, 1440p and 1080p.
The Switch 2 can support 4k resolution
There’s been much anticipation and concern regarding the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2, but today we finally got some clarity! It turns out that when docked, games can be played in up to 4k resolution and at a smooth frame rate of 60 FPS.
As a gamer, I’ve gotta say, Nintendo truly delivered something powerful that aligns perfectly with what we all anticipated!
What resolutions does the Switch 2 support?
The Nintendo Switch 2 will support the following resolutions when docked:
- 720p
- 1080p
- 1440p
- 2160p (4k)
In Handheld setting, you’ll enjoy gameplay at a 1080p resolution and smoothness up to 120 frames per second. The new display is larger, measuring 7.9 inches, and boasts double the pixel count compared to the initial Nintendo Switch. While 4K resolution is exclusive to Docked mode for the Switch 2, the Handheld mode will still provide a sharp visual experience due to its high refresh rate.
The Switch 2 can also support up to 120fps
One of the most thrilling aspects about the upcoming Switch 2 is its ability to run games at up to 120 frames per second in handheld mode, ensuring incredibly smooth gaming experiences. This represents a significant advancement compared to the original Nintendo Switch, making it an exceptionally exciting announcement.
For every game, the frame rate may vary, yet it’s a significant improvement that noticeably enhances gaming experience on this console. Over time, suboptimal graphics and choppy performance on the Switch became increasingly apparent, but its successor exceeds expectations in terms of power.
A device with both 4k capabilities and a 120fps refresh rate among its specifications could make the Switch 2 the most eagerly awaited Nintendo system yet.
