Nintendo’s President confirms their ongoing plans with mobile games
Nintendo, the well-known video game corporation, embarked on its console adventure in the 70s with the Color TV-Game, and has since then garnered affection from fans across the globe. The company is particularly famous for series such as Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, and many others, which have played a significant role in shaping our childhood memories.
I hopped into the mobile gaming scene with Miitomo and now have a quartet of titles under my belt – Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, and Mario Kart Tour. Previously, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp was part of the lineup, but unfortunately, it shut down on November 29, 2024. To fill the void, they introduced an offline version called Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete.
It appears they have no plans of slowing down in the mobile market, as Company President Mr. Shuntaro Furukawa mentioned during an Investor Q&A. He clarified that while he can’t reveal specifics about future app projects, the company is indeed still working on creating new gaming apps.
I’m thrilled about this news as a Nintendo enthusiast and game lover like myself who hasn’t yet had the chance to own a Nintendo console. It’s especially heartening for folks in my situation who still yearn to enjoy their captivating games. Notably, they introduced Nintendo Music on October 31, 2024, offering soundtracks from an array of popular Nintendo titles.
Mr. Furukawa had been vocal about Nintendo’s mobile app downloads along with other insights
Mr. Furukawa highlighted the significance of mobile games for expanding reach to a broader audience, an advantage not offered by game consoles. He put it this way: “Through our mobile apps, we’ve managed to penetrate numerous regions globally, even those beyond the scope of the game console market.” This method allows more individuals to interact with Nintendo’s cherished intellectual properties and characters.

As mobile gaming continues to gain traction and influence, their objective is to leverage this trend. He expressed, “We’ve been pondering numerous ideas about what can be accomplished with smartphones, and we will persist in exploring these concepts further in the coming days.
Despite the excitement surrounding the upcoming release of Switch 2, Mr. Furukawa underscored the need to broaden our customer base beyond gaming consoles. He further noted, “We firmly believe that smartphones will assume a significant role in this endeavor, so we will persist in conducting research and developing solutions in this area.
