Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is Available Today With Xbox Game Pass

Today, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have unveiled the updated version, “Ninja Gaiden 2 Black,” which is now available for both Xbox and PC platforms. This modern rendition of the original 2008 game, “Ninja Gaiden II,” has been given a fresh coat of paint using Unreal Engine 5. You can jump into the action immediately if you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

The launch of “Ninja Gaiden 2 Black” follows hot on the heels of the unveiling of “Ninja Gaiden 4” during Xbox’s Developer_Direct, and it’s a direct consequence of player feedback. This move comes after the release of the “Ninja Gaiden Master Collection” in 2021, where players expressed a preference other than the “Sigma” version of NG2. In essence, they weren’t interested in the Sigma version of Ninja Gaiden 2.

Fumihiko Yasuda, leader of Team Ninja, revealed that the main motivation behind creating ‘Ninja Gaiden 2 Black’ was to alleviate the curiosity of dedicated fans who might be asking, ‘What will become of Ryu Hayabusa?’ Additionally, they aimed to provide an enjoyable experience for gamers while they anticipate the launch of ‘Ninja Gaiden 4’.

He explained that they selected “Ninja Gaiden 2” because it’s one of the strongest action games in the series. To let fans know that this is the ultimate version, they decided to append ‘Black’ to the title, similar to how they did with “Ninja Gaiden Black” for the original game.

Yasuda explained that this edition has been designed to appeal to both fans who played the initial game and new players joining it as a contemporary action title. He mentioned that they’ve carefully blended elements from Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, while maintaining the difficulty and authenticity of the original Xbox 360 version, complete with its characteristic violence and gore. Additionally, he noted that the weapon upgrade system has been tweaked to better match the game’s original launch.

If you prefer the original, untouched Xbox 360 version of “Ninja Gaiden II”, you’ll be glad to know it’s playable on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, boasting an improved resolution. Alternatively, for a modern take, you can now enjoy “Ninja Gaiden 2 Black” on Xbox Series X|S and PC platforms. It retails at $49.99/£39.99, or you can access it through Game Pass.
