A high-ranking executive from Channel Nine is facing criticism due to some questionable social media content she shared during the Logie Awards last week.
At the annual event, A Current Affair’s executive producer, Amy McCarthy, caused a stir with some puzzling remarks she made on Facebook, leaving people perplexed.
In a recent post, McCarthy shared with her followers that she had just made it to the Logie Awards and expressed her enthusiasm about potentially enjoying a drink.
‘I can get drunk now. You thought you’d been spammed before!! Standby!’ she said.
McCarthy later added: ‘Luckily my phone died before any evidence could be recorded.’
She additionally shared a picture of Jimmy Barnes performing at the event, accompanied by a hinting remark, stating: “He’d be perfect for the lineup! #stillwilling
An insider from Channel Nine shared with The Australian that McCarthy’s remarks have caused an uproar and appear to be at odds with the extensive cultural assessment that Channel Nine has been conducting.
In my perspective, if a male figurehead in news had spoken similarly about a talented woman like Delta Goodrem, it would be entirely inappropriate and unacceptable.
This happened shortly following a report that Channel Nine tightened its policies towards employees, as a result of dismissing Alex Cullen from his position as a Today show presenter.
44-year-old Cullen parted ways with his job at the station in January, following his acceptance of a $50,000 offer from potential buyer Adrian ‘Mr Lambo’ Portelli.
In response to the surprising news, the network shared a gentle nudge to all staff members regarding their work-related responsibilities.
Nine’s director of news and current affairs, Fiona Dear, sent the message via email to all staff.
In a memo observed by Daily Mail Australia, the head of the network emphasized that the behavior of ‘television news reporters and on-screen personalities’ plays a crucial role in preserving the audience’s trust.
In summary, it’s understood that business agreements, sponsorships, and endorsements are commonplace across many media firms, such as Nine, as stated in the email.

According to both our ethical work standards and Nine’s legal and compliance requirements, these agreements can be made under specific conditions. However, proper disclosure is essential, and all activities must adhere to Nine’s guidelines and protocols.
In his letter, it was stated that each team member should adhere to both the commercial television industry’s code of practice for professional and ethical behavior, as well as Nine’s social media guidelines and gift policy.
She wrote that every team member at Nine Group needs to follow these guidelines and stay current with any new updates.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that the MEAA Journalist Code of Ethics, which is applicable to journalist members of the MEAA, acts as a valuable guide in reminding us about the ethical standards that journalists aim to uphold.
