Nikki Glaser has ‘to do kind of a cleanse’ after penning roast jokes … after standout performance at Tom Brady Netflix roast: ‘It’s a disgusting place to write from, but … that’s the job’

As a stand-up comedian myself, I can deeply empathize with Jessica Glaser’s experiences of leaving jokes out due to time constraints or not being up to par. It’s always challenging to balance the need for fresh and relevant material while ensuring it resonates with the audience.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share my insights on crafting comedic material, particularly when it comes to penning jokes for a roast, using the example of Nikki Glaser and her remarkable performance at The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady. After nearly three months since the event, I can still vividly recall the energy and humor she brought to the stage.

40-year-old comedian/actress, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, recently featured on the NPR podcast Fresh Air with host Terry Gross, opened up about a roast event where she joked about the football legend’s divorce from Gisele Bündchen.

Following Gross finding it peculiar, almost amusing yet occasionally harsh, Glaser concurred that roasting, an unusual facet of entertainment involving jibes at the guest of honor and others on stage, was indeed intriguing.

Glaser expressed astonishment on the podcast, saying, ‘I find myself wandering to extraordinary thoughts.’ After writing a roast, he added, ‘I often need to detoxify my mind because it becomes so filled with negativity. When I look at someone’s pictures, I can’t help but think of something particularly damaging about them that I might reveal to everyone, just to torment them for a while.’

The award-winning performer expressed that, although it’s an unpleasant setting for composition, that’s simply part of the profession.

As a connoisseur of cinema, having graced the silver screen in films like “I Feel Pretty,” “Trainwreck,” and “Punching Henry,” I find myself pondering the universal theme of roasts – those events where humor is intended to be biting and uncomfortable. Here’s my take on it:

Glaser expressed that while he doesn’t personally know why people find it appealing, he understands its charm due to the ability to express things that one wouldn’t normally dare in the presence of the person. This shared laughter makes everyone feel more comfortable about what they are laughing at, yet he acknowledges that it is indeed quite bizarre.

Glaser expressed her confusion as to why people choose to participate in being roasted, yet she is thankful that they decide to do so.

As a lifelong football fan, I couldn’t help but be taken aback when Tom Brady announced his decision to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I had always admired his skill and determination on the field, and it seemed like such an unexpected move for him. But as I reflected on his career and the choices he’s made throughout his life, I realized that nothing about Brady surprises me anymore. He has consistently pushed himself to be the best, and he has always taken risks when others might have played it safe. So while I may still be a bit in disbelief, I can also appreciate the fact that he’s continuing to challenge himself and break expectations. And if there’s one thing we can all learn from Tom Brady, it’s never to be afraid of taking risks and going after our dreams.

When asked if she managed to connect with Brady following her match, Glaser replied, ‘Not at all – frankly, I don’t have a clue about how to do that.’

Later on in the hallway, Glaser shared his thoughts with him, expressing how phenomenal he found his performance during an exhausting evening when everyone was drained. Yet, he managed to stand out as truly exceptional.

Reflecting on our recent encounter, I felt compelled to express my admiration for your impressive work. With a note of respect in his voice, he echoed my sentiments, praising your accomplishments wholeheartedly. He also offered words of encouragement as we part ways, hinting subtly that our paths might not cross again. Drawing from my own life experiences, I understand the significance of such moments – they serve as reminders of the transient nature of human connections and the need to cherish every interaction.

Brady (age 46) is the father of Jack (age 16), born from his previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan (age 53); and Benjamin (age 14) and Vivian (age 11), who are from his marriage to Gisele Bündchen (age 44).

On May 14, Brady chatted with The Pivot Podcast, sharing his mixed feelings about serving as the main attraction at a humorous gathering. He confessed that certain jokes targeted at him had left his kids feeling uncomfortable.

Brady commented, “I enjoyed it when the jokes were centered around me, I found them amusing,” but he added, “I wasn’t comfortable with how that impacted my children.”

As a dedicated follower, I’ve come to realize that the toughest part is grappling with the mixed emotions when I take an action thinking it’s right, only to find out later that I wouldn’t repeat it due to its impact on those closest to my heart.

Gisele Bündchen felt distressed by certain jokes during the event, as reported to People in May, and was reportedly extremely let down by the disrespectful depiction of her family during the roast show that aired on Sunday evening, according to the same source who spoke to the publication.

The source noted that Bündchen places a high emphasis on assisting her children, as they were impacted by inappropriate content that was disseminated.

Comedians like Glaser, Kevin Hart, along with their former teammates Drew Bledsoe and Julian Edelman have made references to a past event involving them (the person in question) and their breakup, as well as their subsequent relationship with jiu-jitsu specialist Joaquim Valente.

According to the source, during the roast, Bündchen was found to be relentlessly committed to helping people in need, particularly in her homeland Brazil, which was experiencing severe flooding at that time.

Gisele Bündchen felt disheartened when she learned that her personal life was being joked about, given her concern for her family who were impacted by the catastrophic floods. This information was shared.

After the Brady incident, Glaser disclosed an untold joke from her performance, which subtly referenced a scandal where Brady was seen kissing his son Jack in the 2018 documentary Tom vs Time on Facebook Watch.

On The Howard Stern Show, Glaser stated on May 6th that herself and the fellow comedians at the event consented to exclude Tom Brady’s three kids from their comedic acts during the lively performance.

She stated that we collectively chose to keep his children out of most matters, as they hadn’t requested such involvement.

In a conversation, Glaser shared with Stern, who is 70 years old, the joke she had initially omitted: “‘I hoped we’d end up at the afterparty – you could play me as your son,'” which brought laughter from the well-known radio personality.

Glaser said that the joke was a ‘reference to him kissing his son’ in the 2018 doc.

As a lifestyle expert, I personally believe that the NFL legend hasn’t committed any misdeeds in this particular scenario.

In his words, ‘He, my father, often kissed me on the lips even when I was young and throughout my adult years. This resonated deeply with me, and I never passed judgment. To me, it was just an endearing instance that perhaps got overblown.’ (Glaser added)

Glaser went on, “However, there were instances similar to this – we collectively decided, ‘Let’s protect the children from harm,’ despite my action here that might suggest otherwise.”

As a die-hard admirer, I can tell you that the time crunch forced Glaser to leave behind some material during her performance. Not only that, but there were pieces that just didn’t cut it – they missed the mark, lacked originality, or seemed too similar to what others were already doing.

‘Glaser suggested two possibilities: either the impact wasn’t as forceful as others, or perhaps it struck an object another person was holding. Alternatively, he noted that some impacts may appear weak because they were soft to begin with.’

Glaser shared an additional joke with Stern, which he had initially decided not to include in the show: ‘I appreciate everyone being here this evening, stepping away from infidelity for a moment – after all, it’s not their fault – it’s their wives who are aging, naturally.’

As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t help but share that Glaser mentioned a subject she deliberately avoided diving into – the struggle of football players battling concussions and dealing with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). Interestingly enough, she had a humorous take on this serious issue penned down at one point.

She commented, “One of the jokes was about a topic: The money raised tonight will be used for CTE research, yet the NFL allegedly conceals this – unbeknownst to many, suppressing such knowledge costs millions, even lives of those in the know.”

As a devoted supporter, I’d like to share a perspective that was originally expressed by Glaser. He intended his remark as a commentary on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), emphasizing the potential harm these athletes inflict on their bodies and brains, all in the name of camaraderie at a Buffalo Wild Wings. In essence, he was saying, “I hope it was worth the cost, gentlemen.”

At the roast, Glaser cracked a sharp wit remark about Brady, bringing up his separation from Moynahan in 2006 while she was pregnant with Jack.

She expressed, “Tom, honestly, you’re one of the greatest to have ever played for such a long time – you retired, then returned, and retired again. I understand it’s difficult to leave something that isn’t your girlfriend, but it’s tough. Now, let me clarify, he wasn’t aware she was pregnant; he just thought she was gaining weight.”
