Nikki Garcia files for divorce from Artem Chigvintsev after 'DWTS' pro's domestic violence arrest

As a seasoned movie reviewer who has seen more than a few Hollywood marriages unfold on and off-screen, I find myself both saddened and intrigued by the news of Nikki Garcia (formerly known as Nikki Bella) and Artem Chigvintsev‘s impending divorce.

Nikki Garcia has decided to end her marriage with “Dancing With the Stars” dancer, Artem Chigvintsev.

On Wednesday, it was confirmed by The Times that Garcia (formerly Nikki Bella from WWE) filed a divorce petition in Napa County Superior Court. This move follows their second wedding anniversary and the recent arrest of Chigvintsev on suspicion of domestic violence charges, which occurred last month.

As a film critic eagerly awaiting the latest project from Stephanie Nicole Garcia-Colace (a.k.a. Nikki Bella) and her partner Artem Chigvintsev, I reached out to their representatives but have yet to receive a response from either party regarding upcoming comments about the movie in question.

Maksim Chigvintsev, known for his 13 seasons on “Dancing with the Stars” since 2014, was taken into custody in Yountville, California on August 29, allegedly following a 911 call. According to the Napa County arrest records, he was charged under a California law that pertains to anyone who intentionally causes bodily harm resulting in injury to a significant other, ex-spouse, household member, fiancé or fiancée, former romantic partner, or co-parent.

It’s uncertain if Garcia, who danced with Chigvintsev during Season 25 of “DWTS” in 2019, was implicated, as TMZ suggested there may have been some injuries.

Chigvintsev, 42, was released from custody the same day of his arrest on $25,000 bail.

The romantic bond between Garcia and Chigvintsev during their time on “DWTS” blossomed into marriage in 2022. Prior to their wedding, they were blessed with a son in July 2020.

On August 26th, they commemorated their wedding anniversary, a little over three days prior to Chigvintsev’s detainment. In an Instagram post, the longtime “DWTS” pro expressed admiration for his spouse, stating that he couldn’t imagine his life without her.

“You are my everything,” he captioned a photo from their wedding.

In Garcia’s Instagram post, she drew inspiration from the lyrics of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” to convey her feelings towards her dance partner, who was born in what was then the Soviet Union and moved to the U.S. in 2003. She described their love as mirroring the song’s tale. Furthermore, she mentioned that she had a spiritual dialogue with Jesus and God about her dance partner.

Everything seemed to move too quickly, but then this song started playing, and at that moment, I realized I was beginning to fall in love with him, and everything just felt right.

Neither Garcia nor Chigvintsev have shared any posts on social media since their respective arrests. Prior to his arrest, it was determined that Chigvintsev would not be participating as a professional dancer with new contestants in Season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars,” which airs on ABC starting September 17.
