Nika Futterman Reveals Asajj Ventress’ New Voice in ‘Tales of the Underworld’
With the reappearance of Asajj Ventress, there are minor yet significant changes in her voice, differentiating it from her portrayal during the Clone Wars period.
In an interview prior to the series launch, voice actress Nika Futterman discussed reprising her role as Ventress. She explained that instead of merely feeling and visualizing her character, she’s been delving deeper into her background for a more accurate portrayal. Futterman described it as a smooth transition back into embodying Ventress. In addition to refining the unique voice of this Sith-turned-bounty hunter, Futterman shared that one of her initial discussions with Dave Filoni revolved around Ventress’s voice when she returned. Upon first portraying her, Ventress was quite regal. However, she retains some of that nobility due to her witchy and Dathmorian heritage, but now there’s a new edginess to her. The guttural, deep, dark voice remains, but it’s less melodic than before.
In the Cartoon Network run of “The Clone Wars,” the role of Ventress was taken over by Futterman’s second actress following Grey DeLisle. However, due to the show’s initial cancellation, a significant storyline involving Ventress was unfortunately scrapped. This tale was subsequently reimagined, and despite giving the impression that Ventress was killed off, the actress hinted at an explanation for her resurrection. Moreover, the romance she developed in this revised narrative adds depth to Ventress, making her more than just a Dark Side Force-wielder.
Even if she exerts great effort now, she can no longer solely exist as a dark character. Those who have known love cannot remain solely as a dark entity. Her true nature has always been there, waiting beneath the surface,” Futterman hinted. The interview also included additional images showcasing Ventress safeguarding an unidentified youngling and reconnecting with fellow bounty hunter Latts Razzi, whom she first encountered in The Clone Wars‘ season 4 episode “Bounty.
Fans of the popular game, Fortnite, have an opportunity to watch the first two episodes of a new Star Wars collaboration ahead of release. This upcoming animated series, titled “Ventress and Cad Bane,” is Disney’s first Star Wars show in 2025, making it the third installment in the anthology series since 2022. Additional animated projects such as season three of “Young Jedi Adventures” and “Star Wars Visions” have also been confirmed. Notably, Disney has announced plans for a spinoff based on the episode titled “The Ninth Jedi.”
Ahsoka Season 2 Filming Has Begun
