The first week of December is jam-packed with horror and genre movie premieres, which is great news for fans of the frightful! They’ll be thrilled to see the release of a new A24 movie, the streaming debut of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the Amy Adams-led “Nightbitch,” and Nick Frost’s dark comedy about a disastrous vacation.

Additionally, don’t forget to check out a few standalone films that are worth watching, such as the chilling Christmas thriller “You Are Not Me” and the spine-tingling horror set in a haunted house “Chateau“. For a comprehensive rundown of all the new horror movies and shows hitting screens this week, be sure to read on for the full list.

Persona (VOD, Dec. 3)

In an isolated home, I find myself awakening alongside another woman, both of us in a chilling predicament. We swiftly comprehend our captivity, the mystery of our abductor eluding us, and the bewildering fact that we’ve been drugged, left inside a fortress where every door is barred and windows are sealed. As we strive to cooperate for survival, the question looms: Can we truly rely on each other amidst our desperate struggle for freedom?

Creature Commandos (Max, Dec. 5)

In a fresh development, Amanda Waller returns with another intriguing strategy to assemble an unanticipated group of heroes, except this time there’s a twist: no human members are allowed. Instead, she selects a covert operations squad composed of monstrous figures, such as the aquatic Dr. Nina Mazursky, The Bride, the combat android G.I. Robot, Weasel, the radioactive Doctor Phosphorus, and others. Notable DC characters making an appearance in the series include Circe, Rick Flag Sr., and Clayface.

The series “Creature Commandos” initiates James Gunn’s tenure in the DC Universe and serves as the foundation for the story arc titled “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters“. The ensemble cast boasts talents such as Maria Bakalova, Anya Chalotra, Steve Agee, Frank Grillo, Alan Tudyk, Viola Davis, Indira Varma, Sean Gunn, Zoë Chao, David Harbour, and others. The initial installments will debut on December 5, with subsequent episodes released weekly until January 9.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (Max, Dec. 6)

Approximately four decades following Tim Burton’s release of the iconic 1988 dark fantasy movie, a long-awaited sequel was produced, featuring several original actors reprising their roles such as Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara.

On Wednesday, actress Jenna Ortega takes on the role of Astrid, Lydia Deetz’s daughter, who embarks on a dark adventure into the Afterlife in the cast of the sequel. This film, which was applauded by critics and raked in money at the box office, is now available for streaming at home on Max. The original 1988 movie can also be streamed.

Chateau (VOD, Dec. 6)

In this rephrased version, the movie titled “Chateau” is primarily a horror production filmed through the point of view of its main character, a social media personality named James (portrayed by Cathy Marks). To boost her vlogging appeal, James agrees to take on a job that involves cleaning an ancient chateau located in the picturesque French countryside.

The issue lies in the fact that this house carries a questionable past, with several individuals inexplicably disappearing from the premises. Intrigued by the prospect of capturing ghostly apparitions on film, James and their partner venture into the castle, eventually understanding too late that it may have been wiser to leave both the structure and its inhabitants untouched.

F*** Marry Kill (VOD, Dec. 6)

In this Lionsgate thriller, Lucy Hale takes center stage in a suspenseful production with comedic undertones that will captivate true crime enthusiasts. The story revolves around Eva (Hale), who is deeply engrossed in true crime podcasts to the point where it complicates her dating life, especially when she and her friends discover the chilling “Swipe Right Killer,” a murderer who targets victims via dating apps. As Eva starts to suspect one of the three men she’s seeing could be the killer, she teams up with her friends in an attempt to apprehend him.

Get Away (Theaters, Dec. 6)

In this humorous thriller, Nick Frost both writes and appears on screen, telling the tale of a family who decide to take a holiday on a secluded Swedish island. Little do they know, a ruthless killer is lurking in the shadows. The trailer hints at the film being a typical Swedish horror flick. However, the scenes suggest that instead of a single murderer stalking the island, it might be a cult who has tricked the family into coming there with evil intentions, possibly for human sacrifice. Regardless of whether the killer is part of this cult or not, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this movie!

Nightbitch (Theaters, Dec. 6)

According to the novel titled “Nightbitch,” which Rachel Yoder wrote, the movie of the same name features Amy Adams as an artist who decides to stay home and take care of her children instead of working a regular job. As time goes by, she starts to believe that she’s turning into a dog every night. The film, “Nightbitch,” was generally well-received during its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, with critics appreciating Adams’ acting skills but expressing concerns about the movie’s lack of innovation.

Werewolves (Theaters, Dec. 6)

As a gamer, I’m not the only one diving deep into the world of canines this week, but rather, exploring the thrilling realm of werewolves in the upcoming movie. This film takes us to a universe where humanity harbors a dormant werewolf gene that gets activated during a rare supermoon occurrence. The aftermath of such an event is nothing short of catastrophic – it turns anyone exposed to moonlight into these fearsome creatures, wreaking havoc and causing the death of millions. Fast forward a year, and another supermoon event looms on the horizon, and the world braces itself for the chaos that’s about to unfold.

Y2K (Theaters, Dec. 6)

A lighter take on horror, the movie “Y2K” humorously depicts the Year 2000 issue in a catastrophic comedy set during New Year’s Eve of 1999. Two misfits sneak into a house party as a nation-wide glitch wreaks havoc on technology, causing it to malfunction and turn against humans. This film marks the directorial debut of Kyle Mooney from “Saturday Night Live“, and features Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison, Rachel Zegler, Fred Durst, and Alicia Silverstone in its cast.
