In 2025, nostalgia thrives among upcoming theater releases, and the beloved Night at the Museum series is no exception. For many moviegoers like myself, this family-friendly franchise has been a favorite from its inception. Remaining one of the most cherished film series, the Ben Stiller-led trilogy has had ample time to win hearts worldwide.
My affection for the original saga makes me hesitant about the announcement that 20th Century Studios plans to revisit it with what seems like a reboot. The idea doesn’t inspire much confidence when there are some excellent alternatives currently being considered.

Night At The Museum’s Potential Reboot Has A Really Tough Act To Follow
It’s not certain yet if the upcoming Museum tour will be a fresh start rather than a remake, as Deadline’s article on this matter is still quite unclear. However, it has been revealed that writer Tripper Clancy is working on creating “a new tale set within the museum with entirely new characters.” Regrettably, this setup seems to lean towards a reboot when closely examined.

Stream all four Night at the Museum movies in one place – the Disney Plus/Hulu Bundle! While you could opt for each service separately, the bundle offers a fantastic deal at just $10.99 per month (or $19.99 ad-free). It’s as if magic itself has made this offer available to you! Check it out now.
I’m equally confident that “the museum” will remain as New York’s American Museum of Natural History, considering the specific terminology employed. On one side, I can envision how a revamp for the Night at the Museum franchise could attract a fresh audience of children. However, Shawn Levy’s original trilogy was undeniably a creation of its era – even the improv showdowns in Battle for the Smithsonian reflect this.
Interestingly enough, despite the sad twist, the recent update for the franchise has placed it at an optimal point for success.

The Animated Disney+ Sequel Already Set Up Two Promising Concepts For Future Sequels
As a film enthusiast, I can’t forget about 2022’s “Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again,” a delightful animated sequel that you can stream with a Disney+ subscription. In this film, young Nick Daley steps into his father Larry’s shoes as the night watchman, potentially opening up a new chapter in the Daley family story. Moreover, it subtly pays homage to Robin Williams, who played the iconic Teddy Roosevelt, a tribute that left me quite touched.
Over time, it’s likely that younger parents will share their past experiences with the series through their children, allowing the franchise to expand alongside its fanbase – a trait I highly appreciate in any fandom. Moreover, the impressive box office earnings of “Jurassic World Rebirth” demonstrate that nostalgia remains a valuable resource.
It’s perplexing that there isn’t a follow-up play featuring Ben Stiller as Ben Stiller, especially since Kahmunrah Rises Again left Larry heading to a museum in Japan. Given the enthusiasm of Night at the Museum fans for such a setting, it seems logical to explore what transpired there. Since the animated sequel successfully revived the character, it would make sense to continue the storyline, wouldn’t you agree?

Maintaining a positive outlook is crucial when significant changes like this are disclosed. There’s a chance that the mystery might unravel, proving me wrong, and this upcoming project could be a continuation or sequel to the beloved 2000s family movie, carrying forward its essence. Let’s stay patient and try not to get too emotionally invested in Alan Silvestri’s enchanting theme music – just in case this turns out to be a remake.
