Night Agent star’s controversial biopic becomes Netflix hit

As a huge fan of Gabriel Basso’s acting skills, I have been thoroughly impressed with his latest role in “Hillbilly Elegy” on Netflix. Despite the controversial backlash and negative reviews it received initially, this biopic has become a surprising hit among viewers. The film, based on JD Vance’s memoir, offers a raw and compelling portrayal of Vance’s upbringing in Middletown, Ohio, with Basso brilliantly embodying the older Vance.

Instead, Vance’s political career received a fresh boost when he was chosen as Donald Trump’s running mate for the 2024 US presidential campaign.

At present, “Hillbilly Elegy” is the eighth most-viewed movie on Netflix globally, with a significant number of views coming from the United States.

The tale centers around Vance’s childhood in Middletown, Ohio. Basso takes on the role of the older Vance, while Adams and Close bring his mother and grandmother to life on screen.

The film received harsh criticism from critics when it first came out and has a low approval rating of 25% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Los Angeles Times described it as an “unruly mixture of door-crashing, child-hitting, and husband-burning theatrics.”

Recently, I came across a criticism labeling the game an insensitive and dull portrayal of American heartland life from a Hollywood perspective.

As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for gripping and thought-provoking cinema, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news that has recently come to light. Having grown up admiring the works of Kathryn Bigelow, the groundbreaking director behind masterpieces like “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty,” it’s a genuine pleasure for me to learn that she is set to collaborate once more, this time with the talented Jeremy Renner, aka Basso, on a new project. This news fills me with anticipation and excitement, as I eagerly await the opportunity to witness their creative partnership unfold on the silver screen.

Title yet to be determined, this upcoming film features a sparse plotline thus far. It’s said to take place at the White House during an emergency situation. Actors Jared Harris from “Chernobyl,” Idris Elba, and Rebecca Ferguson are attached to the project to star.

Netflix’s show “The Night Agent” announced an exhilarating development recently: they completed filming for season 2 towards the end of last month.

The thriller series made its debut in 2023, and barely had time to air its first episode before being given the green light for a second season.
