Nicole Kidman really wants to do a 'hardcore horror,' cites Talk to Me as a fave

As a seasoned gamer and movie buff with a penchant for the macabre, I can’t help but feel a palpable surge of excitement at Nicole Kidman’s recent confession of her love for hardcore horror. Having followed her illustrious career spanning across decades and various genres, it’s fascinating to see that there remains an untapped territory in the realm of terrifying tales.

Nicole Kidman, an incredibly gifted and adored A-list actress with a multitude of awards and a captivating body of work, seems almost incapable of not excelling in her roles. However, it appears that there’s at least one film genre she hasn’t delved into extensively yet.

During a recent profile piece for the magazine L’Officiel USA, Kidman revealed that she’s a big horror fan. She specifically said that she enjoys watching “hardcore horror,” even citing the Australian horror flick Talk to Me as a recent favorite of hers.

Over the course of her long career, Kidman has played roles in numerous somber dramas with psychological undertones, but she’s only dipped her toes into horror with thrillers such as the chilling gothic ghost tale “The Others”, Park Chan-wook’s “Stoker”, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”.

Among the three options, “The Others” stands out as the most conventionally scary tale, though both other titles have their own chilling sequences. However, Nicole Kidman subtly hints at a more intense, in-your-face kind of terror, similar to “Talk to Me” or Ti West’s “X” trilogy, which Kidman has expressed admiration for.

One major factor leading Nicole Kidman to join the cast of the DC film “Aquaman” was her initial assumption that it was a horror movie. In truth, she had expressed interest in collaborating with director James Wan on a horror project.

I’ve not done classic horror yet. Hardcore horror. I’m putting it out there, because I watch hardcore horror. I’m a fan of Ti West!

It seems she’s searching for a role with a touch of gore and suspense, perhaps in a movie produced by A24 or Neon. I’d be thrilled if she’d collaborate with West or Wan once more. A part that places Kidman within the horror genre would be delightful, and maybe this desire will help make it happen. Undoubtedly, there are numerous horror directors eager to cast her.

Next, Nicole Kidman takes on roles in two highly anticipated productions. First, she delves into a murder mystery series titled “The Perfect Couple,” an adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand’s novel. This gripping series debuts on Netflix on September 5. Following this, Kidman teams up with Harris Dickinson for the erotic thriller “Babygirl.” This film is set to hit cinemas courtesy of A24 on December 25.
