Nicole Kidman explains why she’s “nervous” about new erotic thriller Babygirl
As a seasoned gamer who’s navigated countless narrative journeys, I must say, Nicole Kidman‘s role in ‘Babygirl’ strikes a chord that resonates beyond the silver screen. Her portrayal of a powerful CEO torn between duty and desire mirrors the intricate balances we often grapple with in our virtual lives.
Nicole Kidman has explained why her new movie left her feeling “nervous” and “vulnerable”.
In this scenario, the young lady, affectionately referred to as “Babygirl,” observes Nicole Kidman portraying an influential business executive. Driven by intense passion, she finds herself in a complex romantic entanglement with a significantly younger colleague who’s an intern, potentially jeopardizing her career and family life.
Under the guidance of director Halina Reijn, this sensual suspense film features Harris Dickinson from ‘The Iron Claw’, playing the role of the intern, alongside Antonio Banderas, who portrays Kidman’s spouse.
In this year’s Venice Film Festival, the premiere of the movie garnered positive responses, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Nevertheless, Nicole Kidman expressed some ambiguous emotions regarding the showing.
At a press gathering, the actor expressed that this project makes them feel unguarded, anxious, and exposed. However, working on it with this specific team was tender, private, and incredibly profound.
She expressed: “Currently, we’re all feeling somewhat anxious – it’s as if I’m thinking, I hope my hands aren’t trembling – yet, I feel incredibly proud to be part of a festival such as this, and to be moving forward with films that are still in production, especially those led by women.”
Regarding her choice to participate in the project, Kidman acknowledged that Reijn made her feel confident in the part she was playing.
As a gamer, I found myself captivated by the experience, and I believe it was largely due to the skilled direction of Halina. I felt assured that she wouldn’t manipulate or take advantage of me, which made our collaboration even more enjoyable.
To put it another way, regardless of how others might perceive it, I never felt taken advantage of. Instead, I felt deeply involved in it all. The narrative was one I desired to contribute to, one I yearned to share, and every fiber of my being was invested in its realization.
