Nicole Kidman, 57, reveals she often wakes up 'crying and gasping' thinking about her mortality, marriage and grief as she poses for striking GQ shoot

As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in emotional intelligence and personal growth, I find Nicole Kidman‘s reflections on her life journey deeply resonating. Her openness about dealing with mortality, loss, and parenting is not only courageous but also profoundly human. It serves as a reminder that we are all on this rollercoaster ride called life, filled with moments of joy, sorrow, triumph, and defeat.

Nicole Kidman has revealed she’s often awoken with thoughts about her own mortality.

For the British GQ’s Men of the Year 2024 edition, the actress, now 57, graced the cover with a powerful pose. In this issue, she shared insights about how her perspective on life has evolved during her fifties.

The woman with four children explained that she’s particularly attuned to her feelings when asked why she experiences emotions more intensely these days.

Nicole elaborated: “Life encompasses experiences such as mortality, connections, the unexpected arrival of life, dealing with parental loss, raising children, and marriage – all elements that shape us into fully conscious beings. I can relate to each of these aspects, making life quite profound.

This experience is undeniably a voyage. As time passes, it seems to strike us more profoundly, much like a sudden, tear-filled awakening at 3 am. If you’re immersed in it and not choosing to dull the sensation, then I can relate, as I am fully engulfed in this journey myself.

Nicole once more delved into the topic of mortality, musing over how the experience of losing her parents and nurturing her children had reshaped her perspective on existence.

She explained: ‘There’s the mortality aspect of life which, when you start to deal with that, it’s very heavy. When you’re raising children you’re like, “I gotta stay here. I wanna see all of this.” It’s devastating and beautiful and extraordinary.’

In the year 2014, Nicole was deeply saddened when her father, Antony, who was 75 years old, was suspected to have died from a heart attack. This year, in September, Nicole’s mother, Janelle, passed away at the age of 84, just a week after Nicole completed this interview with GQ.

She has daughters Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith, 14, with husband Keith Urban, whom she married in 2006.

As an ardent admirer, I’ve always been captivated by the enigmatic life of the Oscar-winning actress. She shares two beautiful children, Bella, aged 31, and Connor, 29, with her former spouse, Tom Cruise. However, their relationship, though shared through adoption, seems to be shrouded in complexity, as I’ve noticed they haven’t been spotted together in public for a staggering 16 years.

Previously, Nicole subtly indicated that Bella and Connor are deeply committed to their father and do not address her as ‘mum’. This choice appears to be rooted in their allegiance to Scientology, which they seem to have prioritized over her after she parted ways with the famous Hollywood star.

After reminiscing about the days following her father’s passing during her conversation with GQ, Nicole remembered an instance where her two young daughters, aged four and six then, noticed her crying.

Nicole said, “The tiny one was so small that she couldn’t tell if I was pretending or not.” When asked, she queried, “Mommy, are you playing a part right now?” The elder one responded, “No, mommy, you’re not acting at the moment.

However, the elder one replied, “Won’t you feel happier in the morning instead?” As no one enjoys a house filled with sorrow. Who would?

A week ago, Nicole revealed her feelings regarding the passing of her mother this year, expressing regret that Janelle missed seeing her recent movie, titled Babygirl.

The actress shared her thoughts with Vanity Fair during their Hollywood Issue, discussing the loss of her mother who unexpectedly passed away while she was at a film festival, receiving recognition for her performance in an erotic thriller.

The actress shared with the magazine that she was thrilled to catch a glimpse of Babygirl and The Perfect Couple as well, but unfortunately, she didn’t manage to see either one of them.

Nicole described her mom as her ‘compass,’ adding she loved and supported her career.

The Oscar-winning actress explained to Vanity Fair that she had been like a guiding force for her. It’s as if she had lost this compass, yet found herself continuing onward simultaneously.

‘She desired greatly that my sister and I should foster a generation of women empowered to freely express themselves and access opportunities. This wish stemmed particularly from aspects she lacked during her time.’

The actress added her mother ‘loved’ her career, and was always supportive of her endeavors.

Nicole expressed: ‘Through thick and thin, she’s always been with me. Her influence has shaped my entire existence significantly. If only she could witness this phase of my journey.’

During a Venice International Film Festival panel last month, the news of the actress’s mother’s passing was shared by director Halina Reijn, who read a statement on her behalf.

As a connoisseur of all things lifestyle, I planned to grace the festival stage and receive the prestigious Volpi Cup for my exceptional portrayal in that captivating erotic drama.

In my recent travels, I found myself stepping into the enchanting city of Venice, only to learn moments later that my extraordinary and valiant mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, had taken her final journey.

After abruptly departing from the gathering, Nicole conveyed: “I’m utterly taken aback and must hurry to my loved ones, yet this accolade truly belongs to her. She molded me, led me, and inspired me.

In a touching statement, the actress from Big Little Lies expressed her deep gratitude for being able to mention her name to everyone through the character of Halina. The intersection of life and art in this case is incredibly poignant, and her heart is heavy with emotion.
