61-year-old Academy Award-winning actor Nicholas Cage was recently seen donning a bulky costume to accurately portray Madden’s more substantial build during the filming commencement in Atlanta, Georgia, on Monday.

Additionally present during filming was Christian Bale, aged 51, who portrays Al Davis – the long-standing owner and general manager of the Raiders, a crucial figure in Madden’s ascent – just like him.

The setting will involve his years spent in the National Football League, yet the main focus will be on him and his role in developing one of the most significant and impactful video games ever made.

By 2018, EA sports had sold more than 130 million copies of Madden NFL. 

The game’s latest edition was the best-selling video game in America as of August 2024. 

Regarding Russell, who was famously labeled a ‘difficult individual’ by George Clooney, the insider revealed that he has not been easy to work with and is now coming to terms with this reality. As the consequences of his past behavior are starting to impact him, he is striving to regain his influence and status in Hollywood. He sees this film as his chance for a comeback.

The source noted: ‘The screenplay for the movie was part of the prestigious Black List, which includes scripts that have been successful in Hollywood over the last few years, like The Revenant, The Descendants, and Juno among others.’

After David O. Russell took over and became the scriptwriter for the updated movie, his previous achievements immediately make it more likely to be noticed and considered as a contender for awards discussions.

Even though he hasn’t received an Academy Award nomination in more than ten years, there’s a possibility that this could spark renewed interest in his work and potentially get him back in contention.

In 1967, Madden was employed by Davis, who was both the owner and manager of the Oakland Raiders, as their linebackers coach.

Two years on, by 1969, he appointed Madden as the head coach of the Raiders – a significant turning point for the team’s history.

Under his guidance, the Raiders transformed into one of the toughest teams in the NFL. For a decade starting from 1969 until 1978, Madden, as their coach, led them through an unbroken streak without a losing season, and they eventually triumphed in Super Bowl XI during the year 1977.

The film’s director announced the casting last August, praising Cage’s prolific career.
