Nicolas Cage Reveals Dream Roles: Captain Nemo and Beethoven Await!

As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve always admired Leonardo DiCaprio for his remarkable ability to embody diverse on-screen personas, particularly those that are unpredictable or eccentric. Yet, in an engaging conversation with George Edelman from MovieWeb about his latest film, he shared some intriguing characters he yearns to portray – and his fascination with real-life, historical figures might catch you off guard.

Lately, Cage’s acting career has experienced a significant resurgence, showcasing some of his most exceptional and varied performances yet. Ranging from Dracula to a chilling serial killer, a man with a pig, and an over-the-top portrayal of himself, Cage frequently opts for roles that are unique and impactful in numerous ways. If given the opportunity, he expresses a desire to embody a classic Jules Verne character and several historical figures. He stated:

I’m drawn to various characters, from literary figures like Captain Nemo from Jules Verne’s novels, whom I admire due to my deep affection for the ocean, to historical icons such as Beethoven that inspire awe. In the realm of arts, Dostoyevsky captivates me. There’s an array of characters out there.

But one character he shows no inclination towards revisiting is any of his past roles. When asked about roles he’d like to reprise, he responded:

“I don’t want to redo any of them. I don’t want to go backwards. I want to move forward.”

Nicolas Cage Is Delivering Some of His Greatest Performances

Over the past few years, numerous actors have experienced a resurgence, but none can match John Cage’s prolific work rate and consistent performance quality. In just the last five years, he has appeared in more than 20 films, with several more currently in production.

It’s particularly noteworthy that many of his recent projects have garnered some of Nicolas Cage’s best reviews since the early days of his career. For instance, in 2021, the movie “Pig,” where he played a truffle hunter searching for his lost pig, earned an outstanding 97% positive feedback from critics. The following year, his self-aware portrayal in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” co-starring Pedro Pascal, also received 87% approval from both critics and audiences. This impressive streak has continued with movies like “Dream Scenario” (91%), “Longlegs” (86%), and the latest release, “The Surfer” (86%). However, his upcoming movie, “Gunslingers,” seems to have stumbled even in a renaissance period, with a mere 5% Tomatometer score. But let’s cut him some slack, shall we?
