Nicolas Cage Details How He Prepared for Spider-Noir Role

As the release date nears for the Nicolas Cage-starring Spider-Noir series, the actor has discussed how he got ready for the role. In a recent interview, Cage revealed the characters and actors he researched to create a distinctive personality for his upcoming Spider-Man spin-off. He’s moving into live-action after previously voicing Spider-Noir in Sony’s Spider-Verse animated films.

Nicolas Cage says Spider-Noir was ‘70% Bogart and 30% Bugs Bunny’ for him

The actor known for playing Ghost Rider shared that he looked to classic movie stars for ideas when creating his character for Amazon’s Spider-Noir, and he also tried to imitate the playful and unusual behavior of some cartoon characters.

Nicolas Cage described his character to Esquire as a blend of Humphrey Bogart and Bugs Bunny – about 70% Bogart’s tough persona and 30% Bugs Bunny’s playful humor. He explained he approached the role like voice actor Mel Blanc imitating Bogart, but ultimately, it was a completely personal performance.

Nicolas Cage shared more about how he developed his character for the Spider-Verse sequel, explaining that he drew inspiration from actors like Cagney and Edward G. Robinson. He noted that Humphrey Bogart, and those around him, often felt like animated characters, and that’s what he aimed for in his performance. He described the result as captivating and larger-than-life, making the character incredibly compelling and giving him a unique, unforgettable voice.

Nicolas revealed there’s a specific backstory behind his character Ben’s unique way of speaking in the Spider-Verse series. It’s not just an imitation of old-timey movie performances and Marvel themes – there’s a real reason for it, which will be explained in a future episode.

Spider-Noir, created by Oren Uziel, is expected to premiere on MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video this spring.
