Nicola Walker’s best drama performance: Unforgotten star’s rage-filled ‘wrong-com’ is a must-see

It’s incredibly liberating to witness a woman fully express her anger, something society doesn’t often allow or expect.

In a culture that often encourages women to be agreeable and avoid conflict, Alice, the main character created by Walker, completely rebels when she learns her longtime friend is dating her daughter, Izzy (Yali Topol Margalith).

The intense conflict between Alice and Steve unfolds as a darkly funny story, touching on surprisingly emotional themes as their once-close friendship falls apart.

Okay, so I just read a little about this show, and honestly, it sounds amazing. They’re not giving away too much, which I appreciate, but it looks like it’s going to be a really interesting story about a complicated friendship. Apparently, Alice is doing everything she can to get her daughter away from her friend Steve (played by Jemaine Clement), and it sounds like that’s going to be the main focus. No spoilers, but it’s already got me hooked!

As the story begins, things quickly turn sour for her. What starts as a wonderful friendship with Steve soon spirals into a bitter and intense rivalry, as he’s prepared for whatever comes next.

If you’re holding onto strong, difficult feelings, Nicola Walker will help you release them – she’s captivating to watch. The Unforgotten star is, once again, incredibly magnetic.

In an interview with Digital Spy, actress Walker credited series creator Sophie Goodhart with capturing the show’s intense emotions, saying the scripts were full of passion and that Goodhart had a remarkable ability to express those feelings through her writing.

The writing truly shines when portraying complex emotions. Alice’s explosive anger is a testament to Walker’s skill, showcasing a nuanced and powerful range of emotion.

It’s important to acknowledge that Clement’s partner, Steve, is also contributing to this unpleasant conflict. He’s responding to Walker’s behavior with equally childish actions and repeatedly crossing boundaries.

As a fan, I have to say the connection between Alice and Steve is just amazing! They have incredible chemistry whether they’re getting along like best friends or completely at odds with each other. Even when they’re fighting, you can see a real softness and vulnerability between them. What I really love is that the story makes you think about what really makes two people work as a couple.

The show examines these themes primarily through the experiences of Steve and Izzy, but also by looking at Alice’s marriage to Daniel and even the budding romance between their son, Dom, and Rome.

Daniel Fry is a standout performer. His character evolves subtly yet powerfully throughout the show, and his moving performance beautifully highlights both the fragility and strength of Alice’s character.

Alice and Steve is a surprisingly good show. It’s easy to watch and really captivating, but it also thoughtfully examines the difficult truths about relationships that people often avoid when they’re in love.

You definitely shouldn’t miss this! There are six episodes of complete chaos waiting for you, and we highly recommend watching them all.
