Nicola Walker’s beloved Scotland-set crime drama gets disappointing update

The popular crime drama set in Scotland, titled Annika, starring Nicola Walker, has received an unsatisfying announcement about its upcoming third season.

As a die-hard fan, I’ve been eagerly waiting for it, and finally, my favorite show just dropped its second season on BBC One, two long years after its initial debut on U&Alibi. Here’s hoping we get another season soon!

It appears that viewers won’t be getting a new season soon, since UKTV has stated they don’t currently have any renewal plans.

In a statement released through Radio Times, they expressed great pride over Annika’s accomplishments on U&Alibi, however, at this time, they have no plans for a third season.

The show centers around Detective Inspector Annika Strandhed, portrayed by Walker, as she leads the Scottish Marine Homicide Unit (MHU). She investigates and unravels murder cases and mysteries.

The disheartening news arrives following the second season receiving widespread praise, boasting an 83% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with _The Herald_ stating: “Praise be to _Annika_, which yet again seemed to miraculously materialize to rekindle faith in television drama.

Unlike certain dramas that seem to have exhausted their emotional depth by the end of their second season, the Marine Homicide Unit still has a lot of uncharted territories, although not everything may unfold smoothly according to plan,” Collider noted.

In addition to Jamie Sives, Katie Leung, and Paul McGann reprising their roles, the second season of the show titled “Annika” introduces Doctor Who star Varada Sethu as a new character named DS Harper Weston.

Annika airs on BBC One and is available to stream on BBC iPlayer, and also airs on U&Alibi.
