Nicola Walker addresses The Split’s future
As a seasoned gamer of legal dramas and emotional rollercoasters, I can’t help but feel like I’ve just been handed a golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory with the news of “The Split: Barcelona.” Having followed this captivating series since its inception, it feels like reuniting with old friends who happen to be in the midst of a lavish wedding in Barcelona. The return of Hannah Defoe (Nicola Walker), her sisters, and the rest of the Defoe clan is not just a delightful Christmas treat, but a much-needed escape from the cold, dark studios of England.
Nicola Walker has weighed in on what the future holds for The Split.
This month, the cherished BBC series featuring the Defoe family, who are all lawyers, makes its comeback on our screens with a two-episode special called “The Split: A Trip to Barcelona“.
Initially, the series concluded at the end of season three back in 2022, hinted as the last installment. However, it was confirmed in May that there will be two additional episodes to follow.
During a private conversation with Digital Spy, the actress from Unforgiven shared her thoughts on potentially reprising the role of Hannah Defoe in another installment of The Split.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that, speaking from personal experience within the cast, our collective aspiration is to produce special episodes annually. However, keep in mind that this is simply actors expressing their hopes for the future.
Walker expressed her excitement after receiving news that The Split would be coming back for a two-part special, set to air on both BBC One and the BBC iPlayer on December 29 and 30.
She expressed her excitement, stating, “I was overjoyed! The thought of us collaborating and the fact that this event was a wedding taking place in Barcelona made it even more delightful.
To be completely honest, even if they had shared that we’d be holed up in a dimly lit studio somewhere chilly in England’s heart, I’d have still been over the moon with delight.
When asked if she was open to penning additional tales for the Defoe sisters, the creator and author Abi Morgan did not categorically rule out the possibility.
She shared with Digital Spy, “You know, I don’t rule anything out because I have such affection for those characters and the actors. It’s always delightful to revisit them. Taking a break has been wonderful, but my love for them remains unchanged. So, who knows? Maybe I’ll return to them in the future.
Currently, it’s delightful to whisk them off for a vibrant, enjoyable holiday escape from the workplace and the realm of “The Split” TV series, offering something truly special as a festive surprise.
In the upcoming special episodes, actor Toby Stephens takes on the role of attorney Archie Moore, who coincidentally attends the same wedding event as the Defoe family. It’s possible that romance could blossom between Archie and Hannah – let’s wait and see!
Excitedly, I can’t wait for me to dive into “The Split” premiering on BBC One on December 29 and 30 at 9 pm! And if I miss it, I’ll be sure to catch it on iPlayer on the same day as well (December 29)!
