The ongoing family drama between Brooklyn Beckham and his parents doesn’t seem to be cooling down, and many believe his wife, Nicola Peltz, just made things worse. Fans are interpreting her recent Instagram post as a veiled dig at Victoria Beckham.
On Tuesday, the 31-year-old actress shared a photo on Instagram showing off her ability to do the splits.
The wealthy socialite spent four months training hard and following a very strict diet to prepare for her role as a ballerina in the new film, Prima. She lost a significant amount of weight, dropping below 100 pounds, for the part.
She confidently showed off how much progress she’d made by doing a full split during practice.
Fans also wondered if Nicola was subtly shading her mother-in-law, possibly by imitating Victoria’s well-known leg pose in the photo.
The 51-year-old fashion designer is famous for a distinctive pose: she lies down and kicks one leg straight up in the air, creating a right angle with her body.
She first showed off her impressive flexibility in March 2016 with a now-famous photo. It showed her casually filing her nails while lying on a couch, with one slender leg lifted high and her foot elegantly pointed, all while wearing heels.
Similar to Nicola, Victoria attributed her good posture to her ballet lessons, jokingly writing on Instagram, ‘Culottes and ballet classes – who knew they’d work wonders!’
The mother of four first became a dance teacher because her family wanted her to have a secure career option. She trained in tap, jazz, and ballet at Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom, Surrey.
Kirsten McCarron, who founded PureBallet dance classes, explained that achieving a pose like Posh’s requires a lot of dedication and hard work.
She’s been doing ballet since childhood, and that’s helpful, but achieving true flexibility takes consistent effort and dedication.
Over the past ten years, Victoria has repeated her signature yoga-inspired pose on numerous occasions, even while traveling for work – like during a trip to Singapore – and even while walking the runway during her fashion shows.
In 2020, Nicola Peltz posted a photo of herself teaching her daughter Harper, who was 14 at the time, how to do something. She took the picture herself, before her relationship with Brooklyn Beckham and his parents, Victoria and David, became strained.
Nicola isn’t alone in copying Victoria’s pose – Amanda Holden and Kourtney Kardashian have also shared similar photos on social media.
I remember when Kourtney Kardashian had everyone talking back in 2017! She posted a photo of herself relaxing on the couch, leg up in the air, and casually referenced a Spice Girl in the caption. It was such a fun, unexpected moment that really captured people’s attention.
The reality star shared a photo on Instagram with the caption: ‘Victoria, I’ll call you later – I just got back from the football game.’
As a lifestyle observer, I noticed a lot of chatter online when Nicola posted something that immediately had people wondering if it was a subtle jab at Victoria Beckham. Victoria playfully referenced Kourtney Kardashian with a photo of herself, snapped right after a shower. She wore a pink satin robe and had a towel in her hair, jokingly captioning the image: ‘Right back at you Kourtney Kardashian!’
Interestingly, Victoria’s two youngest sons have also tried copying the iconic Posh Spice pose in the past.
In 2017, Romeo and Cruz, then 23 and 21 years old respectively, playfully shared photos on Instagram of their failed attempts to recreate a flexible pose, jokingly wishing they’d inherited their mother’s agility.
When Romeo was fifteen, he couldn’t lift his leg very high and jokingly complained about his lack of flexibility, asking, “Why can’t I bend like that?”
Twelve-year-old Cruz couldn’t quite copy his mother’s flexible pose, but he shared a funny picture of his attempt and showed his appreciation for her, writing, ‘Not so flexible! @victoriabeckham #yearsofdance’.
