Nicola Coughlan turns a leather jacket into a mini dress for Big Mood season two premiere after hitting back at ‘plus size’ label

Nicola Coughlan wowed at the Big Mood season two premiere in London on Tuesday, wearing a leather jacket creatively transformed into a short dress.

The 39-year-old actress, known for her role as Maggie Donovan in the Channel 4 comedy, looked stunning in a black outfit paired with matching tights.

The actress, known for her role in Derry Girls, wore black heels to add some height and styled her blonde hair loose and flowing.

Her co-star, Lydia West, accompanied her on the red carpet, wearing a sleek black suit, top, and open-toe heels.

Hannah Onslow, a fellow actress, wore a long-sleeved burgundy dress that fell to mid-calf, paired with brown knee-high boots.

Robert Lindsay, looking sharp in a black suit, seemed happy as he posed for photos with Nicola.

The film’s debut follows Nicola’s recent response to comments about her body size. She clarified that she was a size 8-10 during the nude scenes in Bridgerton, pushing back against the idea that she is ‘plus-sized’.

I was really surprised to hear the actress say she doesn’t care about body positivity, even with the kinds of scenes she’s done. Honestly, she said all the talk about her body, whether it’s praise or criticism, just completely bores her, and she has no interest in getting involved in that conversation. It’s a pretty blunt take, but that’s what she said!

Nicola Coughlan revealed she lost weight before filming the nude scene that became popular in the third season of Bridgerton, sharing this information on the cover of ELLE UK’s April issue.

She explained that she used to dislike receiving compliments about her body from fans, because she believes it takes away from the appreciation of her acting and the effort she puts into her roles.

Nicola explained that one of the things she says that often upsets people is that she doesn’t support the body positivity movement.

As a child, I never considered actors’ physiques or how they looked. It’s something I simply don’t think about even now.

I care about many things, but this isn’t one of them. It’s just not something I’m interested in; it’s more for other people.

She talked about the comments made about her body on the show, explaining that it was strange because she was actually very fit at the time. She’d been working out a lot and had lost weight – she thinks she was around a size 10, but one of the costumes she wore was a size 8.

Honestly, it drove me wild when people started focusing on my size. I remember thinking, “Seriously? This is what we’ve come to? I’m apparently the ‘biggest’ woman anyone wants to watch?” It was just… infuriating and a little sad, if I’m being real.

I once had a really intoxicated woman corner me in a bathroom and tell me she enjoyed watching Bridgerton because of my physique. She started commenting on my body, and honestly, I just wanted to disappear. It was incredibly upsetting.

It’s incredibly frustrating to pour months of your life into a project, sacrificing time with family and personal life, only for the final result to be judged solely on superficial appearances. It feels incredibly dull and unrewarding.

Oh my gosh, Nicola just shared the cutest thing about her and Jake! She said they really try to make it work, even with his crazy schedule. Apparently, she sends him the most ridiculous videos all the time – can you imagine?! – and they FaceTime constantly. It’s so sweet how they stay connected even when he’s super busy with work. I’m officially obsessed with their relationship!

I used to just admire him as an actor, but I really appreciate that he has his own interests and passions outside of work.
