Good news for fans of The Magic Faraway Tree! The movie adaptation is coming soon, and the trailer that’s been playing in UK and Ireland cinemas will be available to a larger audience very shortly.
Meet Silky, named for her beautiful, naturally golden hair! We’re getting our first look at her character – a cherished blonde fairy – and the filmmakers say this movie is truly something special and they can’t wait for everyone to see it.
The Magic Faraway Tree is a series of British fantasy novels by Enid Blyton. The stories follow the Thompson family, who move to the countryside and find a huge, magical tree. This tree is home to wonderful creatures and can transport them to exciting, faraway lands. The series began with The Enchanted Wood in 1939, followed by The Magic Faraway Tree in 1943.
Just days after sharing a first look at the project – including the official poster for the movie The Magic Faraway Tree – Coughlan and her co-stars, Gregor and Ferguson, announced where fans could see the trailer. In a joint Instagram post, they revealed that some viewers would be able to watch it before screenings of Wicked: For Good. They expressed their excitement, encouraging fans to “Go watch the trailer on the big screen!”
The movie stars Jessica Coughlan alongside Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy, who play the parents, Tim and Polly Thompson. Gillian Anderson appears as Dame Snap, the headmistress of their children’s school. Ben Gregor directed the film, and Simon Farnaby, known for his work on Paddington 2 and Wonka, wrote the screenplay.
Both The Magical Faraway Tree’s Writer And Director Praised These Stars
Fans were thrilled by the all-star cast, but it especially energized screenwriter Simon Farnaby. He immediately complimented the acting talents of Garfield and Foy when they were announced in 2024.
Screenwriter Simon Farnaby, who also co-wrote Wonka, said having actors like Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy is a dream come true. According to Variety, he praised both for their skill and the emotional depth they brought to their characters, adding that he’s long been impressed by their charm, humor, and subtle performances.
The screenwriter explained that some characters are written with a depth he struggles to achieve. He joked that even a classic children’s author like Enid Blyton would be amazed by the range of roles Garfield has played – from Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man to Queen Elizabeth in The Crown, as portrayed by Claire Foy.
Director Ben Gregor shared his excitement about working with Andrew and Claire, calling them “exquisite performers” and saying he felt lucky to have them in the film. He explained that they are central to the film’s warm and hopeful story and are ideal for bringing the script to life.
The Magic Faraway Tree is slated to hit theaters in March 2026.
